Now, i'm just waiting for a prescription for cyclobenzadrine (I refused painkillers). Anyhoo, I had to reschedule my job interview today, but considering I've barely slept in over two days, it's for the best.. I've always had mixed feelings about Fahey-I used to feel he basically took the guitar accompaniment to old blues tunes, recorded them without vocals, then called them his compositions. I still feel like that to some extent, but I've heard some great pieces by him on WFMU, so I've had to adjust my assessment somewhat.

Irene, you made my day. A new Fahey release!!! Huzzah!

Saw him numerous times the last decade of his life. Once flew to Chicago to see him at the Table of the Elements festival at the Empty Bottle. Almost got into a tussle with Keiji Haino, who was obnoxiously pushing his way in front of people (a brush with "greatness" perhaps?). Afterwards, sat with Fahey as he regaled the people around him with tales of getting in a tussle with Michelangelo Antonioni during the filming of Zabriske Point.

I was planning on seeing McLaughlin with Shakti untill I saw the ticket prices. Even though it's practically all his "fault" I even took up the guitar, although I have many influences, but don't wear them on my sleeve, they are all there! The first performance of the 50th anniversary for Shakti was in Mumbai and was lacking energy, and I would be bummed if Johnny would be struggling at 81 years old. Well, much to my surprise, I just saw some live footage from their London show last month, and they were all transcending! Johnny has never rested on his laurels and always comes up with new tunes, and the dude was absolutely wailing!

Howdy Irene and listeners
Does anyone else think this track is autotuned or is it me?

McLaughlin, Paul Simon, Graham Nash, and Sir Paul, are all 81! Macca looks like he's in his 50's. Johnny is also in great shape, and he and Simon continue to put out great new works...They just have to!

Ian, we decided it was worth the price to get tickets. How many more times will they play? McLaughlinb also recently posted on FB that Zakir Hussain had helped his arthritis with some traditional medicinals.

Could be. I've heard him sing live and his pitch is pretty good. But I think the sound is definitely a bit overproduced.

Have been puttering along, paperwork, hoping the day continues to be quiet here at work, enjoying the music you're streaming, and then along comes John Coltrane and life seems more alive.

I made the same calculation about Brian Eno. He's playing here in London in the autumn (fall) and tickets are eye-wateringly expensive, but since it's only about his fifth gig in 40 years (so how many more will there be...?) I decided to pony up and buy some. On the day it's a sunk cost and all I'll be thinking is 'I'm going to see ENO!'
