I'll never forget one sweet memory of being stuck in traffic somewhere uptown near the entrance to the Triboro. Forgot where we were going; I was maybe 16. Anyway bumper to bumper traffic; gridlock; at the lights, the car crept up only half a car length and we were almost a city block from the intersection. As we crept along, we saw the car behind us open its passenger side door -- two kids jumped out waving a $20. I crane my neck around and there's a shaved ice guy between two inexplicably parked trucks. Mom immediately told me to take the $10 in the ash tray/change compartment of her old Chevy and get us ices also. We were more than halfway done with them by the time we cleared that intersection. I hope that shaved ice guy made a killing at that light; I remember it being as hot as hell that day also.
