The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

"Formica Obscuripes, more commonly known as Western Thatching Ants, are very common in the Northwest of North America. While I was on Vashon Island in Washington state, I found a gigantic anthill that stood nearly 5ft tall. Thousands of ants built this hill with their relentless hard work. I took two piezo contact mics and placed them on the top of the hill with a hard left/right pan to a recorder. I hit record and captured these mighty ants crawling and scratching my microphones. Oh yes, terrible news about Tom Brokaw's current health status. Death pool is already on. (I usually don't partake in such things anymore. But I did once the week Bowie passed away, and sadly, I won one of my bets for that year.)

Checking upwards...why is it good that Brokaw is no more? He was pro-war, pro-establishment for his entire career. His devotion to *real* journalism was nonexistent.

He was a propagandist, and he knew as much, but he wanted to believe his work was honorable. Yet it was not.

"Feed the troll"...I'm a troll? I am a contrarion, but not (intentionally) a troll. I wish folks wouldn't automatically assume that their views of the world were accurate.

B-side: termite hills!
from my Imaginary Sound Events of 2018:
Termite Mound Sounds Termitology (Subterranean 2018)
Termite mounds are actually the junk heaps of dirt the industrious bugs haul out of the ground while digging their cities. Millions of tiny legs and feelers are involved, and movement makes sound. Termites make a tapping noise when agitated, so our intrepid researchers at Termitology agitated some termites to come up with these rhythm tracks.

Phase IV is an excellent example of an insect fear film and I really recommend it. Directed by Saul Bass, a name usually associated with graphic design and film title design.

A fairground next to the local FD here ihn town where a flea market takes place on Sundays is having it's own cicada problem. They nest right beneath the grounds around the part of the field that isn't covered in gravel. And when the flea market is open, some can be seen every so often flying past unsuspecting shoppers.
