when they played Antwerp, the first time I saw them, it was the first evening in Europe (of that tour) and something wasn't set up right with the converters, and one of the amp heads caught fire while they played. That was rad

What Is This That Stands Before Me on Sacred Bones records is a pretty cool little Sabbath tribute album. Molchat Doma's cover of Heaven and Hell off of it sounds like an unused John Carpenter movie track. I'm diggin' the show. Maybe the only thing that could make it even better is some Krokus.

I wish there were more movies akin to Heavy Metal (1981). Even though just about the heaviest track on its soundtrack might be Riggs - Radar Rider or Black Sabbath - The Mob Rules. The Spine of Night (2021) or Ralph Bakshi's Wizards sort of come close to that atmosphere. Apparently The Spine of Night took 7 years to finish the animation work. It's even got a Loc-Nar equivalency in it, that item which seems to corrupt and bring out the worst in humans who attempt to wield its power.

The Three Mothers Trilogy is Argento at his finest. I really dig Inferno (1980), especially the underwater scene and the protagonists attempting to unscramble the puzzle of that high rise with its hidden crawlspaces. The three mothers are in fact a play upon the Greek Fates of destiny (Moirai), Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. The term, 'spinster,' is actually not rooted in a derogatory quality but rather on of weaving one's destiny. Makes me think of Riane Eisler's book, The Chalice and The Blade and how patriarchy and matriarchy switch roles over the cycle of the aeon.

Also, it's sorta like that Wu-Tang - Liquid Swords track sample of a martial arts film. "Choose the sword and you join me, your father. Choose the ball, and you join your mother in death. You must choose." Why is it always those stark ultimatums that tend to attract our emotions and attention though? Seems like even the team of (Rosicrucian?) writers who penned the Shakespeare works gravitated to those ultimatum extremes....The more sensational the better, I guess.
Avatar 5:54am
dan in wisconsin:

Apparently Cormac McCarthy and his son were set to write the screenplay for Blood Meridian before he passed a few weeks ago. John Hillcoat was slated to direct. And I'd wager that Nick Cave might've played a hand in the film too. Very metal movie, it likely would've been. It's certainly a vile read at times, it really displays humans at our worst.
Avatar 5:56am
dan in wisconsin:

But yeah, Nick Cave might play a mean-assed Judge character.
