Remarkable thing about TheKinks - they pioneered that PowerChord kinda HardRawk (with of course the nod to LinkWray & that sort someone like DJ Rex would know about...) - & also this smart sensitive album-length Narrative kinda Writing which you might think was almost the Opposite !
Of course - TheKinks got blacklisted by the Musicians' Union in the USA
- while TheWho by great contrast broke in the USA by Performing dramatically Live exactly.
& after DaveDavies slit his amp speaker to get a 'natural' Fuzz - Townshend worked directly with Jim Marshall in London to develop the true large Stax kinda power.
...Hey ! ...whut about TheTroggs man ?!? :D
& having said the above - Townshend obviously is an indispensable Writer, & many other things...
