I'm thinking that she's Guy's ex-wife before Bruno kills her. She was played by Hitchcock's daughter, Patricia, I think.

still looking for a cheat code for daily life, but in absence of that, pretty good! Yes Rick A, the "promiscuous" first wife Miriam, after talking with the husband on the train, he lures the naturally-promiscuous Miriam on the carnival boats to the deserted shore (even HEAVIER than the 'Tunnel of Love', back then!!) and kills her there.

Easier to spot many "directors" than to "name that film"! :) Hitchcock is often distinctive, and yes, even though the TV show writing varied, it was always well-acted and well-shot. And led to "Psycho", a movie done by the TV show's production crew.

Monica: there is a lot of psychology around to-do lists. Two things I find really interesting, from two different articles.

...our brain appears to be wired to nag about unfinished to-do list items as uncompleted tasks and unmet goals continue to pop up into our minds. This is called the Zeigarnik effect and explains phenomena like earworms -- when you hear only a portion of song, the song is likely to run through your mind at odd intervals as your brain struggles to finish it. Originally, the Zeigarnik effect was believed to be the brain's way of ensuring goals are eventually accomplished, by prodding you into urgency until they are. But recent research has shed new light on the relationship between the conscious and the unconscious in our cognitive to-do lists.

[It] turns out that the Zeigarnik effect is not, as was assumed for decades, a reminder that continues unabated until the task gets done. The persistence of distracting thoughts is not an indication that the unconscious is working to finish the task. Nor is it the unconscious nagging the conscious mind to finish the task right away. Instead, the unconscious is asking the conscious mind to make a plan. The unconscious mind apparently can't do this on its own, so it nags the conscious mind to make a plan with specifics like time, place, and opportunity. Once the plan is formed, the unconscious can stop nagging the conscious mind with reminders.

Oh I can't find the other article! But there's another gem in that article:

When a psychologist was invited to give a talk at the Pentagon on managing time and resources, he decided to warm up the elite group of generals with a short writing exercise. He asked them all to write a summary of their strategic approach limited to 25 words.

The exercise stumped most of them. None of the distinguished men in uniform could come up with anything.

The only general who managed a response was the lone woman in the room. She had already had a distinguished career, having worked her way up through the ranks and been wounded in combat in Iraq. Her summary of her approach was as follows: 'First I make a list of priorities: one, two, three, and so on. Then I cross out everything from three down.'

Unscrupulous, perhaps, but the authors argue this is a simple version of an important to-do list strategy for reconciling the long-term with the short-term, or "the fussy with the fuzzy."

Hey Handy, super thanks for the Brooke Wentz book link! Back in the day I usta listen to her WKCR show (Columbia U. Radio station). Slanted a tad academic for my youthful post punk taste at the time - but still an open eared experience. Thats where I first heard the magic that is the DJ programming of Tony Coulter! He was at WKCR before sliding over to WFMU. Did you listen to her show Or Mr. Coulter’s during those early 80s heady days. Again thanks for sharing.

Hey, erik! Alas, I was still in elementary and HS in Atlanta at the time. But I'm doing production editing on the book and am really excited for it to come out. I'll make sure to point out when it does so!

Touché 😉

I'm thinking a "First Aid Kit" should be something like brandy, citrus, syrup and bitters - along with a lemon peel. Shaken and strained to a cocktail glass. Mwah! 😘

Heh, I meant bad as in I screwed up the timestamp in the URL...twice it turns out. This oughta do it. www.youtube.com... Iconic scene for sure. Often wondered if they planned to make it 3D with the carousel scene.

Maybe one of those desiccated lemons as a garnish.

I kind of can't believe it's not already a cocktail, but I didn't see one in a quick search.

Wow, me neither! Lots of "emergency cocktail kit" gifts for sale, with mixing ingredients. But not a clear recipe for a "First Aid Kit"! There's normally a drink for EVERY name, somewhere!

I should ™ my "First Aid Kit" cocktail™ now! 🙂

i don't follow recipes, either. most dishes i sort of memorized and 'eye-ball it' (i never take measurements.) I cook by sense of smell. If it's a dish I've never attempted, I take 5 different recipes, and sort of do an average of them all, while influencing w/ ingredients closer to the palate i have in mind...

'xactly. That's how I approach new recipes in the search engine age. See what's out there, which seems like it will go the best, and try the "spirit" of those ingredients.

Buena suerte with your application!

Now I just need to market the "First Aid Kit", so it's not just another "Sidecar" - make it more about "healing" than the citrus/Cointreau emphasis of Sidecars.

Brandy base, 2 oz, perhaps a "splash" of Jäger (not too much), 1 oz orange juice, sugar syrup + bitters, shake with ice. Herbal and citrus, good "healing" components! Strain into cocktail glass with lemon twist!

@Handy: I also developed a cocktail called the "Pink Jasper" on a 7SD board! When Stashu mentioned the Whitney mansion in Detroit is made with "pink jasper" stone, my mind immediately jumped to the potential for summer cocktails!
wfmu.org...

I say: Amalfi pink gin, lemon juice, some pink grapefruit juice for color, and shake with ice and some chopped basil leaves for a kick!
