I am impressed at Samuel Adams restraint this year. The seasonal on the taps now is still the Summer Ale. Usually the Octoberfest supplants it by the Fourth -- this actually happened one year -- and by now they're on to the Wintah Lagah.

Critics exalt for instance Iggy & Captain Beefheart for having the scope to realize they had to create *their own* sort of version of Blues. rather than just try to co-opt it or appropriate it.
It's amusing that Cream in turn denounced the HeavyMetal they so completely influenced (fully accomplished Jazzbo Baker certainly)...
Point being their relation to Blues is a little complicated. It's certainly a somewhat different animal than Country Blues. But it's not that you can't see Albert King & Buddy Guy from there...
Cream occupied that slot exactly twixt TheWho & Hendrix in History & the development of Rawk. & for such a successful band - it seems to me that people don't quite quite access that as they should do...

Mike spent a good deal of time with the Manson clan himself, so it's not like he didn't participate. In fact a few years ago Squeaky Fromme wrote into a magazine to correct some of Mike's claims when his book came out. It must be tough to get fact-checked by Squeaky Fromme.

Squeaky Fromme wrote to Vanity Fair magazine in 2016 to fact-check Mike Love after they ran reviews on his book. This is the actual letter:

In your review of Beach Boys biographies, I was surprised to learn of my attempt to shower with Mike Love. Ironically, he's the second writer in as many months to allege a soap-and-water sexual advance by one of the "dirty Manson girls." Mike Love's memoir may be, as you say, a better read than Brian's but I couldn't believe anything he says. I've never been within 10 feet of Mike Love.

That's how Zappa got a record deal in LA. The label exec was hitting on a young girl at a club, someone got him to where Zappa was playing, and when he walked in The Mothers just happened to be playing a blues boogie which was totally unlike the rest of the set. The label guy said he'd sign them and left, and that's how Zappa ended up on Verve in '66. If you could play a blues boogie and had the look, and the right label guy saw it, there was your deal. Crazy times.

I watched "Three Bad Sisters" from 1956, B-movie but a decent film, and started but haven't finished "A Face Of War" which is a pretty brutal cinema verite Vietnam documentary from '68 (filmed in '66) that supposedly inspired Coppola with Apocalypse Now.

The only problem with using "What I Like About You" behind a promo drop is once I hear the open, I never don't want all three minutes of it.

But this compensates nicely. The chair allows it.

I love that first batch of Chicago albums, especially CTA the debut, and Terry Kath was an amazing musician. Highly recommend the documentary on him where they try to find his old Telecaster. But yes, Lamm seemed to be the guy for writing those early classics, and he loved his major 7th chords. Check out some of the live videos from 69-71, amazing. And Lamm would quote other songs during the breaks in Beginnings, really cool.

Clem Cattini drums on Kinks’ “She’s Got Everything.” Until I learned that bit of info I considered it one of my fave Mick Avory tracks!
