To start with, a lot of radio-standard "smooth jazz" was in fact the 70s "urban" genre, like George Benson and Roberta Flack that was pretty great. 70s and after "jazz fusion" that led into "smooth jazz" has some good examples in itself. Irwin has played some of the better stuff. And for you: Japanese "City Pop" - kind of like their smooth jazz/yacht rock version from the 70s and 80s. I got into that a couple years ago. YT has many good playlists for that.

Irwin, with your indulgence, I just wanted to repost this, which we've been trying to get up on a lot of message boards this week:

Listener friends, in case you haven't seen it, I wanted to share a GoFundMe for listener HyperDose, who's had some really terrible luck -- after a long run of health issues, he also had the townhouse he was moving into in Denver blow up, with his phone, wallet, keys all inside it. He doesn't have much of a support network except for the friends he made through WFMU, so sharing this campaign widely is his best shot for getting back on his feet:

www.gofundme.com...

Give if you can, but especially please share with your friends and networks and in any context where you think it might help.

Thanks, Irwin!

A doc on Alexander Calder noted that whereas most Modern Artists used Circus motifs as some kind of metaphor for subtly sinister things - Calder's use was pure marvel & delight. He showed up in NYC from Europe @ his Exhibition - & the Promoter was distressed he brought no Works with him ! ...But Calder produced a very large ball of Wire - & proceeded to simply configure the entire thing. Including a functioning Circus comprised of several Performing Acts...

Punk so often posited as an equal & opposite reaction to Prawg : RickWakeman shown taking a paint roller to his keys in the 'Filth & the Fury' piSToLs doc ferinstance.
I never felt that way. To me - Punk & Prawg were both Commercially Marginal Musics - more Underground of the Mainstream.
There's ArtRawk bridging them - yer JohnCales & such.
...To me - There & Then - Punk was a reaction to Disco - which if you actually had to live thru it was overarching & interminable - & Journey Styx Foriegner REO Speedwagon Boston Eagles SteveieNicks &tc.
