Obscure musical gems, avant experimentation, and classics worth rehearing. A conurbation of Leslie speakers, timbales, plungers, arch-tops, tablas, and squeaky reeds. Black ties, pork pies, Cuban boots, Nudie suits, bobbysocks, turtlenecks, and high-heeled sneakers. Jazz is the north star but it’s a wide universe, so says The Laughing Clock.

Indeed. I recently listened to the original recording of Nardis (Cannonball Adderly album), and it was striking how slow and dragged-out it was. You would barely recognize this as the same tune. Of course, it was Bill Evans who rescued it.

DJpeterDE:

↳ Listener Gregory @8:39
Agreed! Cannonball was too glib and didn't really understand what Miles Davis was trying to do with that form. But Bill got it. And he stuck with it, playing it over and over for years.
