Obscure musical gems, avant experimentation, and classics worth rehearing. A conurbation of Leslie speakers, timbales, plungers, arch-tops, tablas, and squeaky reeds. Black ties, pork pies, Cuban boots, Nudie suits, bobbysocks, turtlenecks, and high-heeled sneakers. Jazz is the north star but it’s a wide universe, so says The Laughing Clock.

If you've got any Stan Kenton discs.. his wife Ann Richards (Oct 1, 1935) was a great vocalist for him. She had some solo albums as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
DJ Peter:

I might have a Kenton record or two or twenty. I think Richards might even have an album on the Charlie Parker label, my memory seems to be nagging to say… don’t quote me without googling first…

Don't know her catalog too well but I've got a thing for female vocalists from that era. I listened to an album of hers on which Barney Kessel plays. and i think maybe Jack Sheldon..

But I'm digging these Mark Helias tracks!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm

So many good singers from that era

Great Han Bennink show today… so many chapters, digressions, themes, dead ends… in that career, hard to convey it but I thought you did admirably!

I started with the Red Toucan material, but wow, he's done work for a lot of good labels: Songlines, ezz-thetics... I just purchased 27 CDs from the latter, and I believe one of them is Houle. I didn't even realize that he has a recording with Koglmann's between the lines. I'd want to hear that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
