The message (and successful strategy) of the conservatives (LNP) is to call on the electorate to stay dumb and be proud of it (cf. MAGA in the U.S.). The issue that plays lambent over this referendum is that of land. Private landed property stamped indelibly upon the continent by the European (British) settlers/invaders destroyed the indigenous way of life. The Australian constitution does not recognize the Aborigines as the continent's original inhabitants. Until the early 1990s the legal fiction was that the continent was "terra nullius", i.e. that the land belonged to no one at the time of settlement/invasion and therefore could be claimed as Crown land.

spoke with the young palestinian woman i chat with at supermarket about what was going on in her home country, she said that the treatment of palestinians (ie. palestinians getting pushed out of palestine) was
prophesied in a sacred text and that one day there would be a palestine, but it would take a long time, which on the one hand is magical thinking and to be expected in circumstances as dire as the one happening, and otoh might turn out to be true.

The "roof" of my workplace (it's underground, so more like a ground level veranda) does leak.
Sometimes there's a radio interview going on, and sound people know where to put the console, though someone once commented live about it. The buckets have to be removed for TV shots, puddles are less visible but that makes for a big mess later

Thumbs up, for The Clientele. I like their older material as well; there's a lot of musical exploration going on beneath the sweet pop surface.

Knowing the place is important, often an outside engineer wants to move the console, and when he's told why it's a bad idea he gets real stressed out

It's been long enough since Trainspotting that pop culture can use the song again? I dunno ... Trainspotting seems iconic still to me.

In the tall building
Sit the head of our nations
Worthy men from Spain and Siam
All day discussions with the Russians
But they still went ahead and vetoed the plan

Now up jumped the U.S. representative
He's the one with the tired eyes
747 put him in that condition
Flyin' back from a peace keepin' mission

And so it goes and so it goes
And so it goes and so it goes
But where it's goin', no one knows
And so it goes and so it goes
And so it goes and so it goes
But where it's goin', no one knows

huh my fabulous dentist is also of similar origin.
I don’t like to ask exactitudes for the same reason I never ask women I don’t know when the baby is due.
