Funky16Corners:

↳ Brian in UK @3:37
Indeed, but also, by many accounts, a deeply weird guy
Avatar 🥁 3:41pm
WLSClark:

After so many had already proclaimed 1971's "Blue" as the definitive Joni Lp and then the 74 success of Court & Spark, one would wonder if Joni, now in her 30's by the period you are playing, did she get disillusioned by the lesser sales of these LPs and singles in this period when disco was totally sending radio and sales away from her direction.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
Funky16Corners:

↳ WLSClark @3:41
I don't think she was ever concerned with sales, That was Geffen's department. Joni just kept on being Joni, getting more deep, and complicated, and out there. I saw her in concert in the early 80s, and she was still working to entertain the crowd, played the "hits", even did an Elvis cover.

↳ Funky16Corners @3:44
Agree, but an artist still has to eat (& smoke).
Avatar 🥁 3:48pm
WLSClark:

↳ Funky16Corners @3:42
I figured she would not be caring much about the money aspect. She sure was overjoyed to be at Newport last year finally. NOW, as her old beau Graham Nash sells his songs this week, one wonders if she would ever do that too? Certainly, Joni wrote most everything she recorded, while Graham wrote only probably 10% of the songs he recorded ALONE.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:48pm
Funky16Corners:

↳ Brian in UK @3:47
I don't think she ever wanted for cash. Royalties from covers of her songs, and big guarantees from labels for whom she was a "prestige" artist. Dylan and Miles Davis had the same kinds of deals
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
Funky16Corners:

The "Both Sides Now" money had to be significant. So many covers, and one of them a big hit
