I had to address that brains fixed on a specific music trend thing really hard at 18. Being an isolated redneck dork I thought when I moved to LA in 1984 It would be like the Decline Of Western Civilization. Same interests in the same spots. Everyone said punk was dead and I should check out other things. etc. I thought people would treasure it and put it on a modern art pedestal to study.

I remember visual detail really well, but I"m not recalling anything about location. I think it was the only music store in town. Or else the only one that looked like it was worth checking out. I was impressed they got so much in that spot. And obscure things like Ladd And Frith's early lp from Humboldt country. I didn't buy that but got an interview with REd Cross record.
That probably was the store.

Oh i"m remembering a few other san diego times. I like it there too. I was impressed that the Rock HOrror movie was still shown there in the mid 80s. like it never stopped from it's mid 70s time. and people still got dressed up for it. I'm glad I got to experience that crowd.

My brother, went to L.A., in early 1975, to see Roxy Music (I begged and begged, but my parents wouldn't let me go!). He saw the Rocky Horror SDtage Show, while he was there! So, we were aware of it, before the film was released! We even had the play soundtrack, so we were already familiar with its music! There were only 5 other people, in tyhe theatre, for the premiere. They weren't even getting it 'til after we did!

I also remember, in late 1975, we ranted and raved about TRHPS, and absolutely no one listened to us! Then, when it becam,e a midnight movie - "have you seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show?" And, wee're like, we told you about that over two years ago! I've never seen it in a theatre since, so never seen the dress-up, or 'participation'!

That's great! I still consider moving there. I think I"m getting old enough now to be able to do that older person thing with college. I forget what it's called. But you don't pay to attend and you don't get to participate in critiques or homework grades. Just observe and relearn. It would give me structure so I could handle the big city again. It's so cheap to fly now. I could visit my family like a kid would go home to visit family. It's still on the table in my brain if my plans for our property work out.
I feel like that is my power spot. If I understand John's phrasing correctly. Even if I just want to play. No agenda for the future. just learning, creating and playing.
I'll probably stay in Oregon, but it's my carrot on a stick.

Debbie, if you know of the Waxtrax Record label from out of Chicago - they're the ones who started that store! Then, the current owner, bought it out from them, in 1980! Duane! He's very cool! They used to have three stores, all near that location! Now there's just the main store, and their Used Records store down the block!
