Wearing my Sonic Youth/WFMU t-shirt at work today; looking forward to the interview. So wish the shirt wasn't white, though; I'm bad at keeping my white clothing clean. Speaking of books, I just started Lou Reed: King Of New York by Will Hermes; excellent so far. Hermes is great at drawing a picture of events surrounding the primary subject. Maybe get him for an interview.

I remember... A friend of mine in highschool was a very talented musician and a huge fan of The Allman Brothers. I finally persuaded him to listen to Funhouse. He listened potentially to the whole record from beginning to end. Then he turned to me and explained in a sorrowful, serious tone how awful the record was and how I had no right to make critical comments on any other band. He lost all respect for me after that.

@Bri The Beatnik: Back in the day I was especially interested in the Loft Jazz scene. At Studio Rivbe I heard Sam Rivers, Anthony Braxton, Roscoe Mitchell, Don Pullen and several others. Wildflowers: The New York Loft Jazz Sessions is a 5 CD collection of music recorded at Studio Rivbe. I think you can find most of it on Youtube.

I didn't go to many punk rock concerts back in the late 70s/early 80s. I do remember seeing The Ramones at a club in Brooklyn called Zappa's. It was the loudest show I was ever at. I could hardly hear for days afterward.

But like Thurston Moore I wish I knew where the scenes are too. Maybe they exist but in an unrecognizable form. With lots of drum machines and strobe lights and autotunes.
