I think this is his primary role as a lead in a show, but he was all over radio as a guest.

This particular show was made between his early fame and his later acting career, so it was sort of a leap-pad to his Hollywood films.

(He was in movies earlier, but he started to get star status after, "From Here to Eternity.")

Austin Rich:

There were already TV shows in the early 50's, and plenty of stars were being asked to do TV. So radio had a particular incentive to get stars for the leads in their shows, so they could try to retain relevance as TV was ascending. Both Sinatra and Bacall / Bogart were good gets for radio, and both shows were popular while they were on. In Sinatra's case, once his contract was up, he was happy to do more film instead. But Bogart and Bacall owned part of the production company that made Bold Venture, and their days coming in to do voices were fairly easy. (Reports say that Bogart just drank all day, and they would record show after show after show while he did.)

Back in college, my friend used to work late nights at a public radio station. His job was to play long prerecorded programs so he didn’t have to be on mic too often -so my friends and I would meet him at the station and we’d go into the other studio and record fake radio shows. Beers were involved. It wasn’t pretty but we had a great time

"What a Bird Brain you are."

This saying came from the mis-apprehension that birds are dumb. Modern science had disproved this; brids are actually quite intelligent. But the phrase pre-dates modern science.

↳ Song: ""Origin Story"" by "The Blue Beetle"
I read a TON of Blue Beetle in my youth. He was in The Justice League in those days, had a solo book for a while, and he was re-envisioned in the late 80's / early 90's as a funny, quipping superhero with a ton of gadgets and money. So it was a very funny book, and therefore: for me.

This show is less funny, but has plenty of action, 1940 style.

↳ Song: ""Origin Story"" by "The Blue Beetle"
An interesting detail at the beginning of this story: Dan was already operating at The Blue Beetle before the start of this story, and we can assume, without the 2X secret formula that gives him his powers. So there were two eras of this characters career, which decidedly different abilities.

Austin Rich:

↳ Song: ""Hello Tomorrow"" by "X-Minus One"
We've heard a version of this story on our show before, back during the run of "Dimension X" episodes we aired. This version has better sound, and is slightly different. (As this version is a couple minutes shorter than the Dimension X versoin.) This story was written by George Lefferts, who normally did radio adaptations of published Sci-Fi short fiction, but in this case, decided to run with an original story. He did this a few times, but mostly, he just did adaptations.
