This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

the liner notes open with this quote from the maestro:
"...you must listen to me on my own terms. I will not let you misconstrue me. That era is over. If my music doesn't suffice, I will write you a poem, a play. I will say to you in every instance: "Strike the ghetto. Let my people go!"

WR:

You've got my favorite Kevin Ayers LP on your list.

Regarding the crazy rhythm, the drummers:
Norman Connors: drums
Beaver Harris: drums
Frank Charles: talking drum
Dennis Charles: percussion
Ed Blackwell: rhythm logs

Actually years ago I wondered why he didn't have African drummers playing the "logs" but listening now, it all gels for me.
