A zillion years ago I had to go to the ER -- not my choice, I was in and out of consciousness and vaguely remember the FDNY putting me on a stretcher, then waking up in the ER. Upshot = insurance company gave me grief initially over not getting pre-authorization to be taken to X hospital. Got that sorted out but then had to argue with them to cover the FDNY ambulance. I was still out almost $1800 at the end of the day and that was when I had absolutely NOTHING done at the ER except occupy one of those temorary beds with sheets around them.

GCRP antagonists, sometimes called "gepants" are monoclonal antibodies - in other words, chemically manufactured products that mimic the most powerful components of the immune system. What could go wrong with tampering the immune system? Tons - gepants have not been sufficiently studied to show that they are safe in long term use or at least as effective as more proven treatments. It is reasonable to ask that people try proven treatments before jumping into very expensive treatments with shaky evidence.

	6:37pm Terry: Healthcare is a human right, but it is also an economic activity subject to all of the concepts that govern other activity, supply and demand, increasing demand with marketing, etc. The reason physicians shouldn't own hospitals is a concept called "assymetric information" - the point you just made. Most patients have are no match for what the doctor knows ("the doctor knows best") and will just go along with whatever the doctor recommends. This is a problem when the doctor has a vested interest in what they are recommending. Not a problem for 9 out 10 physicians, but the other 10% can bankrupt the system.

GCRP antagonists, sometimes called "gepants" are monoclonal antibodies - in other words, chemically manufactured products that mimic the most powerful components of the immune system. What could go wrong with tampering the immune system? Tons - gepants have not been sufficiently studied to show that they are safe in long term use or at least as effective as more proven treatments. It is reasonable to ask that people try proven treatments before jumping into very expensive treatments with shaky evidence.

	6:37pm Terry: Healthcare is a human right, but it is also an economic activity subject to all of the concepts that govern other activity, supply and demand, increasing demand with marketing, etc. The reason physicians shouldn't own hospitals is a concept called "assymetric information" - the point you just made. Most patients have are no match for what the doctor knows ("the doctor knows best") and will just go along with whatever the doctor recommends. This is a problem when the doctor has a vested interest in what they are recommending. Not a problem for 9 out 10 physicians, but the other 10% can bankrupt the system.
