Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I'm in the Pro Cat column. She & her musicians didn't seem to parse all the tempos of all the Dylan words for some of the more verbally compact lines - but not as a fail, so almost a style... Agree with what DJ JH says on this. Those songs are so potent & involved - & with Dylan different Live interpretations communicate(d) different nuances & inflections of meaning. (Covering himself in some sense, if you'll allow.) So to cover this whole celebrated (not to say exalted) historical Performance of his seems a feat (not having heard the whole thing...) & a worthwhile approach.

What can I say Vive La France

the odds are against me liking it, but there are some Cat Power songs i like quite a lot.
have to check out the archive.
for me she's at both ends of the love and can't stand spectrum with very little in-between.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

↳ Revolution Rabbit Nov63 @11:09
...even if it's sort of 'recitation' & not an interpretation (as you hope a Cover - of anything - might be). As - that's kind of what Dylan did anyhow...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
tom tom the pipers son:

i usually like cat power, but thought in this instance her (usual) low key delivery collapsed on itself under the conceptual weight of covering a 'masterpiece'

reminded me of an art review i read a long time ago about artist kiki smith who made sculpture from things like wax and paper mache and then starting casting in bronze, the critic opined that the change represented a depletion of creative energy, i thought it was interesting and in smith's case correct

Maybe I'd have to hear it again (&/or - the rest of it). Didn't seem like anything was 'collapsing' or 'flabby' to me. It spotlighted a Dylan song that always rewards consideration - both on point enuff & different from actual Bob enuff for to do that. Which was plenty enuff for the duration. How it compares to / reflects on the rest of her Work - I'll bow out as under-informed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
coelacanth∅:

↳ Revolution Rabbit Nov63 @11:13
really? i can't imagine.
she's so extreme between uninspired moaning, overdriven wailing & monotone tedium; and her mostly bland later work... then beautifully inspired lyrics within interesting structures, sung with care.
...i have 4 of her albums and every album has these extremes. i also have a dvd of the song "willie deadwilder", 18 minutes with very few changes yet i love every moment.
i don't believe i'm so unusual in this observation!
