Tropica Magica	Love Buzz "Love Buzz" by "Tropica Magica"	Smells Like Cumbia	Wampiro Records	2019	“Invigorating”, “brilliant”, and “charismatic” are just a few of the adjectives used to describe Tropa Magica. “The East L.A. duo made a name for themselves by combining alternative, grunge, and psychedelic rock with cumbia” - Says Spin magazine. Having toured nationally and on multiple southwest and west coast tours, they have supported established acts such as Los Lobos, Los Tigres del Norte, and Chicano Batman. The band has boldly and successfully taken on larger LA stages at venues such as The Microsoft Theater, El Rey Theater and The Hollywood Palladium. Of course this is a cover/reworking of the song Love Buzz "Love Buzz" is a song by Dutch rock band Shocking Blue. It was written by Robbie van Leeuwen and first released on the group's 1969 album At Home. The original song is a high point of classic psych rock. Los Dug Dug's	Smog "Smog" by "Los Dug Dug's"	Smog	RCA	1973	Should you encounter who says the flute can't slap...you play them this and tell them to STFU. Los Dug Dug's is a rock group from Durango, Mexico, best known for their work in the 1960s and early 1970s. Los Dug Dug's is one of the first Mexican bands to show The Beatles' influence, and noted as one of the first Mexican rock bands to write their own songs in English, as well as cover songs by British and American acts in English, breaking what had up to then been an unwritten rule in Mexican rock. They have been called "a fiery and exciting band of acid rock iconoclasts" and their music described as "fuzzy, epic psych-rock jams" and "swirling, wild psychedelia" The band continues to perform today.		0:16:23 (Pop-up)
Javier Batiz and His Famous Finks	C'mon and Swim	Javier Batiz and His Famous Finks	Eco	1964	Bátiz was born in Tijuana. In 1957 he founded a group called Los TJ's with which he collected musical influences that were received in the Mexican border cities ; blues and R&B from people like T-Bone Walker , Muddy Waters , BB King , Chuck Berry , Howlin' Wolf , James Brown , among others. By 1968 Javier Bátiz became a famous figure in the blues world in Mexico and was hired to play at the Terraza Casino bar, which turned out to be a successful season. Personalities from all walks of life gathered every night to present impressive crowds in that place, including politicians, artists and intellectuals. That popularity led him to perform in 1969 at the first massive open-air concert in Mexico. In 1969, Jim Morrison and The Doors performed 4 shows in Mexico. At the end of the concerts, the lonely Morrison fled to other bars in Mexico City. The " Terrace Casino " was one of them. Javier Bátiz played there every night. " We were friends, we had known each other since 1967, in a place called " Whiskey a Go-Go ", in Hollywood Ca. " , remembers Bátiz. It was not strange then that he visited him at the Terraza Casino, where Bátiz played every night from 12 at night until 5 in the morning. " Morrison would arrive after his show, at 1 or 1:30 in the morning, he would walk two or three blocks, throughout Insurgentes – the two places were on the same avenue –, to see me play," says Bátiz . Los Monjes	Mi Mami Dijo "Mi Mami Dijo" by "Los Monjes"	Mi Mami Dijo 7"	CBS	1965	Los Monjes AKA "the spanish Monks" were a Mexican garage rock band from the late 1960s. The google spanish to english translator says this: The habit makes the monk Dressed in their peculiar habits, with a mystical image and playing a mixture of rock, classical music and jazz, the trio Los Monjes appeared on the musical scene, originally led by the virtuoso keyboardist Hesiquio Ramos, who already in 1966 performed with high quality complicated jazz songs such as Take Five and Caravana, and classic works such as The Warsaw Concert, in addition to composing original melodies that alternated with interpretations of popular covers such as La Casa del sol naciente and Hanky Panky, with which they became known. . Until the end of his days, Jorge Julio Bracho (RIP) was always on the drums, who died due to liver disease; This was the son of the well-known film director Julio Bracho. Los Crazy Bird's	La Noche "La Noche" by "Los Crazy Bird's"	Napoleon	Dimsa	1966	Los Crazy Bird's began as Los Crazy Boys ...a moderately successful group in the early years of Mexican rock and roll, from what would later be known as "The Golden Age. It is said that they were the first group to use violins in a rock song in Mexico (their cover of the song "Corina, Corina") After recording the second LP, "Vivi" Hernández leaves the group and begins a brief solo career, and when he tries to return to Los Crazy Boys, they deny him entry to the group and record their 3rd and final LP. Meanwhile, Vivi formed the group ' Los Crazy Birds ', recording again on Discos Orfeón and later, 'Los Fratelos', recording on the Discos Cisne label, before continuing his career as a soloist. Fun Fact: Vivi was inspired by his hero Elvis and spent his remaining career years emulating him...until he died in 1977...days after the King himself...		0:25:01 (Pop-up)

É Arenas	Tacquis "Tacquis" by "É Arenas"	LA Single	É Arenas	2023	When it comes to psychedelic Cumbia, there's Meridian Brothers and then there's Eduarado Arenas. Unlike Meridian Brothers' Sly and slippery approach, É Arenas picks you up, slaps you around and manhandles you like a luchidor. To a most pleasant effect, to be sure. But it's raw, it's crazy, wonky, wonderful, and weird! I don't think you'll find an more empassioned love song to Taquis anywhere else.		0:30:35 (Pop-up)
Music behind DJ: Romperayo	Asi No Se Puede Muchaches	Así No Se Puede Muchaches	Souk	2022	Romperayo is distinguished by the rhythm section, probably because the band was formed by the “capitán” of the new generation of Colombian percussionists: drummer Pedro Ojeda, who also plays in Los Pirañas, Palanca, CieloMama, Frente Cumbiero, Ondatrópica and Mucho Indio. The album titles translates to "It's Not That Way, Guys" Romperayo sets itself apart from Ojeda’s other projects though with its aim to dig up often unknown historical samples creating an anthropological conversation between listener and musician.		0:33:55 (Pop-up)

Of course, this band are from London, UK, which I had not been expecting. Size	El Diablo En Cuerpo "El Diablo En Cuerpo" by "Size"	El Diablo En Cuerpo 12"	Self Released	1985	Lead vocalist Jaime Keller Cortina, known under the pseudonym of Illy Bleeding, arrived in Mexico in late 1977 after living and studying in Toronto, Canada. Keller was part of Lady Bleed and Plastic Cocks before the creation of Size. A "We Are Time" supergroup backs her up for this live session Recorded June 23, 2019 for the Part Time Punks sessions in L.A. "In June 2019, the CHANDRA band traveled to Los Angeles for a performance at the long-running Part Time Punks club night series. As part of our trip, the wonderful DJ and promoter Michael Stock invited the band to record four of our classic songs from the early 1980s. 	9:54pm northguineahills: ↳ Kristine @9:49 pulque is fermented agave sap. It almost has the consistency of maple syrup (not quite as viscuous), and it can be flavored. Since it's still actvely fermenting, it will continue to ferment in your stomach, so, if you're not careful, you'll continue to become intoxicated long afer you stopped drinking. it used to be considered a peasants drink, so when i was really young, it was hard to find except in the poorest barrios. by the 2010s, it's became hip, and new ones sprung up, especially next mexican university campuses. It can't be transported, as it has to be made fresh, which if you find pulque in the States, it's usually watery and not that great. i love it!

Tropica Magica	Love Buzz "Love Buzz" by "Tropica Magica"	Smells Like Cumbia	Wampiro Records	2019	“Invigorating”, “brilliant”, and “charismatic” are just a few of the adjectives used to describe Tropa Magica. “The East L.A. duo made a name for themselves by combining alternative, grunge, and psychedelic rock with cumbia” - Says Spin magazine. Having toured nationally and on multiple southwest and west coast tours, they have supported established acts such as Los Lobos, Los Tigres del Norte, and Chicano Batman. The band has boldly and successfully taken on larger LA stages at venues such as The Microsoft Theater, El Rey Theater and The Hollywood Palladium. Of course this is a cover/reworking of the song Love Buzz "Love Buzz" is a song by Dutch rock band Shocking Blue. It was written by Robbie van Leeuwen and first released on the group's 1969 album At Home. The original song is a high point of classic psych rock. Los Dug Dug's	Smog "Smog" by "Los Dug Dug's"	Smog	RCA	1973	Should you encounter who says the flute can't slap...you play them this and tell them to STFU. Los Dug Dug's is a rock group from Durango, Mexico, best known for their work in the 1960s and early 1970s. Los Dug Dug's is one of the first Mexican bands to show The Beatles' influence, and noted as one of the first Mexican rock bands to write their own songs in English, as well as cover songs by British and American acts in English, breaking what had up to then been an unwritten rule in Mexican rock. They have been called "a fiery and exciting band of acid rock iconoclasts" and their music described as "fuzzy, epic psych-rock jams" and "swirling, wild psychedelia" The band continues to perform today.		0:16:23 (Pop-up)
Javier Batiz and His Famous Finks	C'mon and Swim	Javier Batiz and His Famous Finks	Eco	1964	Bátiz was born in Tijuana. In 1957 he founded a group called Los TJ's with which he collected musical influences that were received in the Mexican border cities ; blues and R&B from people like T-Bone Walker , Muddy Waters , BB King , Chuck Berry , Howlin' Wolf , James Brown , among others. By 1968 Javier Bátiz became a famous figure in the blues world in Mexico and was hired to play at the Terraza Casino bar, which turned out to be a successful season. Personalities from all walks of life gathered every night to present impressive crowds in that place, including politicians, artists and intellectuals. That popularity led him to perform in 1969 at the first massive open-air concert in Mexico. In 1969, Jim Morrison and The Doors performed 4 shows in Mexico. At the end of the concerts, the lonely Morrison fled to other bars in Mexico City. The " Terrace Casino " was one of them. Javier Bátiz played there every night. " We were friends, we had known each other since 1967, in a place called " Whiskey a Go-Go ", in Hollywood Ca. " , remembers Bátiz. It was not strange then that he visited him at the Terraza Casino, where Bátiz played every night from 12 at night until 5 in the morning. " Morrison would arrive after his show, at 1 or 1:30 in the morning, he would walk two or three blocks, throughout Insurgentes – the two places were on the same avenue –, to see me play," says Bátiz . Los Monjes	Mi Mami Dijo "Mi Mami Dijo" by "Los Monjes"	Mi Mami Dijo 7"	CBS	1965	Los Monjes AKA "the spanish Monks" were a Mexican garage rock band from the late 1960s. The google spanish to english translator says this: The habit makes the monk Dressed in their peculiar habits, with a mystical image and playing a mixture of rock, classical music and jazz, the trio Los Monjes appeared on the musical scene, originally led by the virtuoso keyboardist Hesiquio Ramos, who already in 1966 performed with high quality complicated jazz songs such as Take Five and Caravana, and classic works such as The Warsaw Concert, in addition to composing original melodies that alternated with interpretations of popular covers such as La Casa del sol naciente and Hanky Panky, with which they became known. . Until the end of his days, Jorge Julio Bracho (RIP) was always on the drums, who died due to liver disease; This was the son of the well-known film director Julio Bracho. On bass we must mention José Antonio Fernández de la Mora (also deceased), who although he was not an original member, was the one who lasted the longest with Los Monjes, and who recorded all the album material that exists of this strange group. both the LP captured live at the National Polytechnic Institute, and the one recorded in the studio.		0:22:59 (Pop-up)
Los Crazy Bird's	La Noche "La Noche" by "Los Crazy Bird's"	Napoleon	Dimsa	1966	Los Crazy Bird's began as Los Crazy Boys ...a moderately successful group in the early years of Mexican rock and roll, from what would later be known as "The Golden Age. It is said that they were the first group to use violins in a rock song in Mexico (their cover of the song "Corina, Corina") After recording the second LP, "Vivi" Hernández leaves the group and begins a brief solo career, and when he tries to return to Los Crazy Boys, they deny him entry to the group and record their 3rd and final LP. Meanwhile, Vivi formed the group ' Los Crazy Birds ', recording again on Discos Orfeón and later, 'Los Fratelos', recording on the Discos Cisne label, before continuing his career as a soloist. Fun Fact: Vivi was inspired by his hero Elvis and spent his remaining career years emulating him...until he died in 1977...days after the King himself...		0:25:01 (Pop-up)

É Arenas	Tacquis "Tacquis" by "É Arenas"	LA Single	É Arenas	2023	When it comes to psychedelic Cumbia, there's Meridian Brothers and then there's Eduarado Arenas. Unlike Meridian Brothers' Sly and slippery approach, É Arenas picks you up, slaps you around and manhandles you like a luchidor. To a most pleasant effect, to be sure. But it's raw, it's crazy, wonky, wonderful, and weird! I don't think you'll find an more empassioned love song to Taquis anywhere else.		0:30:35 (Pop-up)
Music behind DJ: Romperayo	Asi No Se Puede Muchaches	Así No Se Puede Muchaches	Souk	2022	Romperayo is distinguished by the rhythm section, probably because the band was formed by the “capitán” of the new generation of Colombian percussionists: drummer Pedro Ojeda, who also plays in Los Pirañas, Palanca, CieloMama, Frente Cumbiero, Ondatrópica and Mucho Indio. The album titles translates to "It's Not That Way, Guys" Romperayo sets itself apart from Ojeda’s other projects though with its aim to dig up often unknown historical samples creating an anthropological conversation between listener and musician.		0:33:55 (Pop-up)

Of course, this band are from London, UK, which I had not been expecting. Size	El Diablo En Cuerpo "El Diablo En Cuerpo" by "Size"	El Diablo En Cuerpo 12"	Self Released	1985	Lead vocalist Jaime Keller Cortina, known under the pseudonym of Illy Bleeding, arrived in Mexico in late 1977 after living and studying in Toronto, Canada. Keller was part of Lady Bleed and Plastic Cocks before the creation of Size. 	9:54pm northguineahills: ↳ Kristine @9:49 pulque is fermented agave sap. It almost has the consistency of maple syrup (not quite as viscuous), and it can be flavored. Since it's still actvely fermenting, it will continue to ferment in your stomach, so, if you're not careful, you'll continue to become intoxicated long afer you stopped drinking. it used to be considered a peasants drink, so when i was really young, it was hard to find except in the poorest barrios. by the 2010s, it's became hip, and new ones sprung up, especially next mexican university campuses. It can't be transported, as it has to be made fresh, which if you find pulque in the States, it's usually watery and not that great. i love it!
