I remember once going to see Dexter Gordon at the famed Village Vanguard in NYC, and the date was being recorded for release. The producer, Bob Porter, hit the stage before the musicians to admonish the audience to keep quiet. I thought that was absolute chickenshit.
	10:45am Dean: A fourth of the action on Bill Evans' Waltz For Debby with Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian at the VV is the audience and their tumblers of ice.

That said, I read Paul Motian interviewed about this and the fact that audiences are quieter now, and he said, "I think I liked it better in the old days."
