The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

From the Bandcamp page notes: Evan Parker made his first trip to North America as a performer in the fall of 1978 touring solo in the US and Canada. His landmark solo record Monoceros had been recorded in April. This is a recording of his first solo performance in New York City. While it may lack the sonic fidelity of Monoceros, its raw passion makes a statement to the New York audiences lucky to have been at Environ that October evening. |

My stress level due to technology fuck-ups is life-endangering. I spend part of each and every day thanking god or anybody that Steve Jobs is dead. I despise Sir Tim Berners-Lee for his stupid, Vanenvar Bush-like science-fictiony Web.

Once when I was on the reference desk at a public library, a woman walked up to me, took a breath, and said, "Boobs... There, I've said it." She needed to break through to ask a very serious question about breast cancer. We laughed, and I was able to assist her.
FYI, I've also been a cataloger and a sys admin. I know libraries soup to nuts.

I love being alone sometimes. I love being around people sometimes. I just don't want to be in a job where I have to interact with the public except for in very limited situations.
I know myself and what works for me.

Also, brush with fame: at a WFMU event a million years ago, she needed someone last-minute to staff her merch table. Of course I said yes! I got to sit next to her for a few minutes, too. (yes, I was star-struck. duh.)

My cataloging teacher was the marvelous Elaine Svenonius. Check out her book from 2000, The Intellectual Foundation of Information Organization. Tough going, but smart.

In addition to studying to be a librarian, I'm also a trustee for my town's public library, which is an elected position because we oversee the budget and the library is a municipal entity. I'm extremely proud to be a steward of our library, which is a gorgeous Carnegie building.

Been listening in since the start. Thanks for that last set! Always enjoy hearing post-punk & emerging artists that were present around that critical time at the turn of the 80's, when I first discovered alternative rock. But I hadn't yet begun listening to college & public-owned stations until 2 years later when i first discovered WHTG.

Had a flat-broke(n) pal randomly pick up acouple of free boxes of classical records being recycled out of small local Library. He sat on them for a few weeks, tried to pawn them off on me, then decided to look thru them all - found abt $800+ cash 💵 insid!
I say, Manna from recycling vinyl & Libraries & caring abt music.
