Never veering far from the path of homemade punk rock, blues and rock ‘n’ roll, Childish is the epitome of the homemade ethic, never signing to a label or using a producer. For you non guitar nerds out there, when Coxsone Dodd, the STUDIO 1 owner, came back from a trip to England in 1968, he brought some gadgets with him, among them an electronic device called an ECHOPLEX, a delay box. And this very kind of box changed music forever - especially from today's point of view. It changed the way music is produced, the way it is perceived and along the way defined a very important thing: it set a completely new aim for what music can achieve. The Cleaners From Mars	A Glammy Little Christmas	Rose Of The Lanes	Mr. Mule	2015	Martin Newell (born 4 March 1953) is an English singer–songwriter, poet, columnist and author who leads The Cleaners from Venus, a guitar pop band with jangly, upbeat arrangements. He is also regarded as a significant figure in the history of cassette culture and DIY music. He has played in Plodd, Gypp, The Stray Trolleys, By the end of 1980, he was collaborating with Lawrence "Lol" Elliot as the Cleaners from Venus, a band that mostly released their work on cassettes outside the traditional music distribution channels. By 1983, the Cleaners from Venus had evolved into a band with a floating line-up that featured Newell as its only constant member. The band still primarily issued material on cassette, got signed to the West German independent label Modell Records for one vinyl album (Under Wartime Conditions) and ultimately to the German subsidiary of RCA Records, which released two albums (Going to England, Town and Country). After many twists and turns, authoring books and performing light Jazz, since 2010, Newell has returned to making lo-fi, self-released music under the Cleaners from Venus moniker. While the soundtrack is Murphy's least accessible work by some distance, there's no doubt that he captures the bummed-out, existential woes of the film's titular character. //// In an interview with Pitchfork's Ryan Dombal last year, Murphy said it wasn't a stretch putting himself in Greenberg's shoes. “I was going to be a comedy writer when I was young and then I was in a band that sucked and broke up.
