I here you and WOW. I truly DO love SV but by the time you factor in overpriced dinner, overpriced drinks, and transportation, you're well over the already outrageous ticket price just in the extras. The last time I saw SV there before COVID it was awful-- they changed up their seating where tables that were already uncomfortably small for 2 people now had 4 seats on each one. Barely enough room for food and drink for one person nevermind 4. Staff was pushy when it came to drinks and absent for any other service issues. Food was worse than mediocre; it was actually bad. And, the total for that all -- 3 glasses of shitty wine and not enough food to feel full -- was close to the $150 mark. Nope.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:52pm
Threemoons 🌛🌝🌜:

And the whole idea of having to get dressed up and all fancy for the privilege of being treated like shit just to see my favorite artists.....I passed on seeing Laurie Anderson the last time she was there for the same reasons. I mean, at least when I eat cab fare to Ridgewood or Bushwick it's for local bands at smaller venues. I mean, even the Knockdown Center doesn't overcharge for booze and there's food trucks usually outside (saw Tangerine Dream there recently--amazing show).

It was originally a one venue place that used to be IIRC somewhere deeper in TriBeCa before it became too cool. Then it moved, and IIRC there's a branch either in Brooklyn or uptown or somewhere. The old original location USED to make its wine on premises, one of the first places to do so, and USED to have a non-snotty vibe and was a fun place to grab a glass of mediocre wine in the middle of the day if you wandered by.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:56pm
Threemoons 🌛🌝🌜:

I mean, at least Joe's Pub -- which has also become another Home of Overpriced Drinks and Mandatory Overpriced Dinner -- has decent-sized tables for the parts of the theater that serve food. Saw Thomas Dolby there ages ago and had fun. Also, in the WAY before times, won tickets to see a live recording of Nina Hagen's Talkschau. THAT was a blast. And Nina Hagen is AMAZING in person.

I think theres a lot of money being charged for nonsense like 'hipster cool' and a dlumb idea that 'the more you have to pay for anything' the better, or 'place to be (seen)' venues and pubs rate themselves and/or get rated. That, and the uncontrolable lust for money aka greed. It's killing all the nice pubs and venues as it brings forth conceptualist moneymaking dedignerpubs and places. I also read about this in the Dutch Jacobin magazine. Hollow people is what i call them.

But, just look at this fckd up world with capitalists in charge everywhere. Be it oligarchs or partypolitics as in china or the EU and the US being dominated by right wing lunatics. There is no so called communist enemy for all the wealth in the world is in the hands of but a few. Atomisation is THE tool to divide the people. Good ol' Macchiavelli knew it long time ago.
I am just gratefull that there still is awesome music like this and that cultural development goes on. It might just save us all from mental slavery and utter boredom. 😃

Yeah, they pack them in at the clubs. Went to the Village Vanguard not long ago-they aren't bad with the admission price ($40, 1 drink minimum), but they pack them in like they never did before (I've been going there for 30+ years); there are seats every inch of the small tables, there are seats between the tables, you basically struggle to walk anywhere as evey inch of floor space has a chair. It's not that unusual in clubs...
