Crows are smart don’t you know? What do crows know?
The work of American naturalist and essayist Henry David Thoreau,
the minimalist play by Samuel Beckett Waiting for Godot, Dueling Banjos,
Gizmo from the movie Gremlins which IS a Christmas Movie,
how to set the Alarm on clock radios, the Capital of New Mexico.
Crows know The Communist Manifesto, The lesser works of Michaelango
(like David's cousin "Vinnie")
They know how to adjust the Aspect Ratio on your TV if it's a Casio
Crows keep up with Politico, they know why Van Gogh cut off his ear.
They knew how to bake sourdough even before the pandemic.
Mess with them? They know Tae Kwan Doe.
They know the difference between a patio and a portico.
They still read Doonesbury by Gary Trudeau who I believe is actually a crow.
They know how to hang out in a meadow with gusto.
They're particularly good when they're trying to foreshadow.
They know For Whom the Bell Tolls. Spoiler alert: it tolls for thee.
They do not know the work of Edgar Alan Poe. That's Ravens.
Crows know when it's gonna snow. And they're all Scorpios.
They even know when to end a poem. They would have ended this one long ago.
But I'm going to keep writing until tomorrow!

What the Crows Know
How smart are crows?
Corvids are large, big-brained birds
that often live in intimate social groups
of related and unrelated individuals.
They are known to be intelligent—
capable of using tools, recognizing
human faces, and even understanding
physics—and some researchers believe
crows may rival apes for smarts.
Crows know the difference between
Jeff Bridges and Beau. Crows know
the difference between The Velvet Underground
and The Velvet Underground with Nico
Crows know how to tie a bolo
They know how to go with the flow.
They know when to hold them and they know when to fold them.
They know pinots, they know bordeauxs
They know Baudelaire, they know Rimbaud.
Crows know all the right answers on Game Shows
Crows have read all of Foucault. All of it.
They probably know where wojambo is.
Crows know calculus, ekphrasis, telekinesis, sex magick,
they know how to use an abacus
They totally get the end of the sopranos
Crows know why I always get the tower card in tarot
They can name all the pharaohs, even the really boring ones. They know how to spell pharaoh, which I do not
Crows know what you're supposed to know better than you're supposed to know it
It isn't easy to know what a crow knows, just so you know. So now you know! Unless you're a crow. Then you knew.

They make clucky-gurgling noises outside to let me know they're ready for their treat.
