Been a long time since I've seen his films (Blue, Decalogue, Veronique), but I remember them all being super serious. I feel like if the director puts a little bit of humor into their work, they come off as a lot less pretentious

Thanks! It's a courtroom sketch from the Paul Manafort trial. I attended the trial on a lark and found myself in the sketch (I'm the fifth head creeping in the background). We have a print of the sketch (my wife bought a copy from the sketch artist) framed in our living room
