It's from Cage the Elephant's 2nd album, which purportedly "was heavily influenced by punk rock as well as bands such as Pixies and Nirvana." //// "The album was originally announced in July 2009 when the band had stated that they would release it in early 2010 with the title Computer Says Move. The group had recorded over eighty songs but shelved all of them when they realized that "nobody was really into" any of the ideas. The group then took ideas that they had saved for "side projects" and decided to use those songs for the album, which was then given the current title. The band once again worked with Jay Joyce, who had helped them record their first album. The band had trouble recording the songs, with lead singer Matt Shultz, in particular, having trouble finding the inspiration to write the lyrics for songs such as "Flow." He has had a long indie career with interesting projects such as a track by track cover album of Crocodile by Echo and the Bunnyment, a few release on Sub Pop, touring with Raconteurs, relasing on Third Man and Castle Face, touring with Ezra Furman...and generally doing cool shit. He's also very eco consicious. His album "Below the Branches" was the first record in history to make an on-package claim about renewable energy use with the Green-e logo. Stoltz tracked his electricity use and with the help of the Green-e program, offset all the electricity used to record his record with green tags from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. In Kelley's words: “Using renewable energy to offset the electricity I needed to power my guitar amps and my recording machines was a simple and effective way for me to do something about my impact on the environment. Green-e certifies that I am buying 100 percent renewable energy. The Deaner Album | Schnitzel Records / ATO Records | 2016 | "Far from running away from the persona of Dean Ween -- the stage name adopted when he was a teenager -- guitarist/singer Mickey Melchiondo runs straight into it, christening his first-post Ween project the Dean Ween Group and naming their debut record The Deaner Album. Like Freeman, the 2014 debut album by his partner Aaron Freeman -- the duo were separated when Melchiondo wrote and recorded the material for this 2016 album but reunited by the time it was released -- The Deaner Album illustrates precisely what Melchiondo brought to Ween...namely, much of the band's brown sound. Designed as a showcase for Melchiondo's guitar playing -- there are three instrumentals scattered throughout the album, two named explicitly after idols Dickey Betts (the Allman Brothers Band) and Garry Shider (Parliament-Funkadelic) -- The Deaner Album does provide plenty of examples of his six-string prowess, including the clean, lively picking of "Shwartze Pete." The title of that song also suggests how often The Deaner Album trades in cheerful vulgarity, a practice that can't help but recall classic Ween. Often, the album takes detours into madness: the hyperkinetic novelty "Exercise Man" sets the album off to a frenzied start, while "Gum," a de facto sequel to "Candy," provides a garish counterpoint to the heavy rock that surrounds it. None of these thick rockers sound alike: "Charlie Brown" is a swirling circle of doom, "I'll Take It and Break It" punishes with its stomping riff, "Bums" races along, while "Nightcrawler" revels in its menacing depravity. Concentrating only on songs that could be done in one live take, with minimal overdubs but ridiculously lavish guitar textures, it’s a confident set of tiny epiphanies. //// With bass synth, cowbell, and circuitous twists and turns, “Phase-Out All Remaining Non-Miracles by 2028” calls for the magical-realist goal it states in its title, but ends on a fantastically optimistic note for humanity: When it comes to “non-miracles,” the translated lyrics read, “Luckily there aren’t that many.” //// Miracle-Level celebrates the heady euphoria that can result when skill and craft meet with serendipity and happy accidents, like a long-running indie band teaming up with the former owner of Lil Bub and hustling out a full album in two weeks’ studio time. “The idea that an artist even knows what they’re doing … I think it’s a lie,” Saunier said in a recent podcast interview. “It’s an illusion that we tell ourselves for the purpose of making selling the record easier. We dumb it down to a blurb.” A melody doesn’t have to have a meaning, it just is. Continuum | Tiny Global Recordings | 2024 | Martin Bramah & other era ex-members of The Fall have revealed their new album, 'Continuum'; this track "Aim Higher" from it is now available; as are pre-orders in all the usual various formats...https://houseofall.bandcamp.com/ "Martin Bramah moved back to Manchester [with] an idea to form a band of former Fall musicians. He rang Marc Riley, the 6 Music DJ and early Fall member, but Riley told him he didn’t play music any more. Another ex-Fall guitarist, Craig Scanlon, said the same. Classic-era bassist Steve Hanley and his drumming brother Paul were interested, but Bramah was all set to shelve the idea when by chance he bumped into mid-period Fall drummer Simon Wolstencroft, aka Funky Si, who he’d barely seen since they played together during Bramah’s second spell in the group in 1990. “I thought, ‘Two drummers!’ Then it started to come together.” //// The final piece of the House Of All jigsaw was Pete Greenway, a younger guitarist who spent eight years in The Fall prior to singer Mark E Smith’s death... The group represents the entire lifespan of The Fall from 1976 to 2018, though Greenway had never met the others before. In fact, they only had one initial meeting before going straight into the studio to record their debut album. As Greenway puts it, “I was intrigued by the idea of just turning up, plugging in and seeing what happened.” //// Bramah – who still also fronts Blue Orchids, and in some ways is as mercurial and wilful a character as Smith – had some strong ideas for House Of All. There would be no Fall songs or attempts to replicate the sound, though he did want to recreate Smith’s way of working: a pressurised environment where music could be conjured up on the spot. “Some of the best [Fall] moments were improvised,” says Bramah. “That was the element I was interested in recapturing.” //// Their shared history seems to have produced a weird, pan-generational chemistry. “It could have been lousy,” admits Paul Hanley, “but having all been in The Fall made us able to do it.” //// In January 2023, their debut single “Harlequin Duke” was released on the internet to a very positive response – other than from the Smith estate, who released a statement saying they found House Of All “extremely offensive and very misleading to the wider audience of Mark E Smith and The Fall”. The ruckus didn’t last – the family’s principal objection was to the “Fall family continuum” tag, which the band have since stopped using – but Bramah insists they’re “honouring what Mark taught us”." -- One year onwards, here they are releasing an album called "Continuum". “We were in Knoxville, Tennessee, hanging outside a club after a show—this is probably in 2006—and we saw this guy with a shaved head and a long goatee yelling and screaming and talking to himself,” Shultz recounted. “I’m pretty sure he had some mental issues going on. He all of a sudden beelined towards us. Everyone jumped into our car and shut the doors. But I didn’t make it into the car. I was stuck outside. I thought for sure the guy was gonna stab me or something, but then he came up to me and gave me a hug. The whole time he was saying, ‘You have to cage the elephant, you have to cage the elephant.’ Afterward, I was like, ‘We gotta name the band that.’”
