Obscure musical gems, avant experimentation, and classics worth rehearing. A conurbation of Leslie speakers, timbales, plungers, arch-tops, tablas, and squeaky reeds. Black ties, pork pies, Cuban boots, Nudie suits, bobbysocks, turtlenecks, and high-heeled sneakers. Jazz is the north star but it’s a wide universe, so says The Laughing Clock.

Spent time catching up with some of my records today-started with the Paul Motian on Broadway Box (g0t to 2 CD's), then the new vinyl Abdullah Ibrahim record. It's 2 LPs, but they're 45 RPM, so it's really like 1.5 albumss.

(The Ibrahim is the by the same band I saw him pley with a few months ago. The vinyl sounds great, but the run-in groove on side 1 has click/pop, which stops the minute the music starts. Aggravating, but not enough for me to return it yet. Still have to play sides 3 and 4. The album is very special to this AI fanboy-not his playing from 20-30 years ago, but hits me hard...)

I recently picked up a CD of a classical composition of symphony orchestra and concerto, written for Max Roach. After a while I noticed that it was listed as not for sale, making me wonder whether I have an actual "collectors' item." Oooooh! (Composer's name is Tillis, I think, but I don't have the CD at hand now.)

If it's Discogs listing "not for sale" it may not be a collector's item but just not meeting their high ethical standards.

I'm a NY Times Cooking cook-use they're recipes often.
cooking.nytimes.com...

The veggies basically go in at the last 10 minutes, so they don't become mush (being winter, and being lazy, used frozen corn, frozen broccoli, frozen string beans at the end). Times recipes can be a bit bland-I add lots of Italian Seasoning, and a Parmegian Rind, sometimes some wine or mirin.
That's it-came out good (could have added even more Italian Seasoning, but no complaints from the fam).

I just put 5 pints of split pea in the fridge for lunches this week! Snuck some ham hock in there, too. If anyone asks, Basie made me do it.

I have a few TB of music on hard drives, been trying to get them to play on the living room stereo through the Technics CD/DVD/Stremer, but haven't been able to get it to work (It's supposed to, but tell that to the player). I can play them off a Flash Drive, but can only add a limited number of albums to those.

As a general rule, if you like it enough to play it, then maybe I should open my ears to it.

That's a kind general rule and one we should offer to everyone i would think: open ears. at least for the first 3 minutes

Writing from the future: I don't think those divr musicians are Finnish, even if the label is. Did you mean to call the group "1divr"?

↳ Song: "Survivors" by "Max Roach"
For anyone checking this out in the archive: I misspoke when I said the string quartet plus Max Roach was recorded in Italy. Twas New York City!
