StringOFperils:

Someone in the comments section under one of his songs on YT, who used to be in his band for years, said he was amazing; he wrote and arranged all the parts and taught them. His conception was complete. the rhythmic things, the harmony, the innovation and originality. His praise was high. (noticed last year sometime)

well hard to describe, but a song a pocket, the sort of heart of the song's rhythm, and to me rafferty's singing sits right in it

The Knocked-Out Gene Clarks?
  1:00pm
Dean:

No surprise, I guess, but wikipedia includes this:

A 1970 appearance at the Royal Festival Hall, supporting Fotheringay with Nick Drake, earned a positive review from critic Karl Dallas, who noted that all three acts showed "promise rather than fulfilment", and observed that "Gerry Rafferty's songs have the sweet tenderness of Paul McCartney in his 'Yesterday' mood".

Periodic reminder that, if you don't need it to look pretty, you can read paywalled NYT articles without an account. They send you the whole article, then throw a paywall layer over it. It's like serving you the cheeseburger, then laying a napkin on top til you pay up. If you're comfortable-ish with HTML, just view the page source, find the articleBody tag, and Bob Brainen's your uncle.

I put it to the jury that examination of above text provided may be arguably construed as such, or at some remove, constitute a recommendation to interfere with the defendant's instruments of copyright protection, and ask that this may be considered when making its decision. No, actually I don't, that contravenes all my back-pedalling up there. Ok, I'll shut up. Sure.
