I feel the V-FX were closer to the USA version of say those R.I.O. band (“etron fou leloublan”, etc). Other worthy USA bands: Fish & Roses, Orthotonics, Rebby Sharp, Chris Cochrane, No Safety(great!), CURLEW(best!), Amy Denio, Tone Dogs, Ululating Mummies, (also try unrelated Beth Custer, & of course the great USA avant-prog adjacent The Muffins). Etc etc etc
