- a Thesis I think quite sound
- my only caveats being it seems to me less than complete to denote the Fabs as such a Singularity - apart from the entire Movement. Tho his evidence they are the paragons of it - the most exalted & consistent ...certainly most influential - well, sure.
The other thing is - not being Academic myself - but in fact some little Rawker kid - I have always conceived of it the other way from him : TheBeatles were in Suits & Conformed to Pop - until they were able to show true colors, & brought the Masses around to the Avant-garde. He pretty much posits they saved Western Harmonics from Intellectual Abstraction ! Which I hadn't thot of ...tho I think he makes great observation as far as them enabling the Barriers between Fields & Forms to come down...

...tho TheBeatles had me from my toddlerhood in the first run of their Cartoon Show. Which may even underscore your position :D ... Anyhow, I can't say I've become either disillusioned or disappointed in them so far. :)
