"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Zinn The Mood:
Last night in bed finished Hilda Gadea’s book “My Life with Che: The Making of a Revolutionary,” and with coffee this morning got back into the delightful Arthur Taylor book “Notes and Tones.”
The latter is just page after page of really candid and incisive interviews with many of the greats, all taken on the late 60’s/early 70’s. Has me in right mindset for your show.
Back to the former: Still completely blows my mind that 82 guys on a boat successfully invaded Cuba in the late 50’s to throw out the corrupt, American-controlled government and restore the land back to the people. Che is waaaay, way beyond a cultural icon whose face is emblazoned on t-shirts across the globe. Rarely do such selfless, composed, fearless, brilliant and committed human beings come around.
Great stuff, thanks JA. If you haven’t read the Art Taylor book I think you’d love it.
