I hadn’t really been paying attention to St. Vincent until that David Byrne collab. Never heard the entire album - is it holding up? I realize it’s more recent material, but was very taken by both of her perfs on SNL promoting the excellent (imo) “Daddy’s Home” (2021). Something abt that collection freaks my freak. Wanna hear/spend time with its predecessors. I spoke with a few friendly folks that actively disliked her SNL perfs (& I had to watch them several more times so I could boldly hold my position) haha. I say they were a loving kinda tribute to Bowie’s vibes from his under appreciated 1979 LODGER album / SNL 12/15/1979 perfs !!! - so bewildering at the time. I’m geeked and I’m proud of it. 🫠

hi, thnx for the question, it was about.. hmmm..~ ten..maybe eight..years ago, with the help of the site: radio.garden/live, I found a lot of interesting radio stations then, Pete Tong's performance etc., on wfmu I really fell into my soul, this is an incredible project! not a commercial one, where you can communicate with both the dj and the audience(listening, citizens wfmu land : )), as we are doing now, great! I have not met any analogues yet!

  1:48am
Eric the Hat:

I discovered FMU in 1990 I think? Was gifted a beautiful Kenwood receiver by some Canadians who lived across the street from me in Newburgh, NY when they moved away. Discovered the faint signal while scanning the frequencies after my strict mom would fall asleep. (As she wouldn’t allow me to listen to “secular” music.) I was 11 years old at the time and was able to secretly tune in with headphones and a blanket over the receiver to hide the light.

Shit changed my life. (Along with WVKR)

So blessed with what might be the single greatest excuse for the internet’s existence. The fact I can tune in world wide. And be a part of keeping the institution alive…hopefully for the rest of my life.

It’s fucking Magick
  1:55am
Eric the Hat:

The sad part was one time when I accidentally left the dial tuned to FMU and my mom turned the stereo on when there happened to be a sick metal show plowing the waves. This was when I was banned from tuning in thence forth…one of the early catalysts driving me to leave home at 16. To escape religion basically.

When I left NY, it was 2001. I didn’t realize at that time that FMU was in the internet. It was a huge problem for me, having to leave behind what turned out to be the last of real radio. TIL years later some friends of mine in AZ happened to randomly be tuning in to listen to Nat Roe, The Goddamn Dave Hill Show and also The Best Show. My mind was totally blown. There was FMU. Back in my life. To stay! Bless up.

Am about to attempt to properly learn Ukrainian, as my family is Ukrainian/Polish and am now “dating” a Ukrainian woman. Tried to teach myself Spanish when I was eleven or twelve…I think I established the threshold but soon forgot. Because the way to actually learn is to have to use it…which I did not. So, we’ll see how this goes.
