Need more revolutionary music in this world. “All our grievances are connected,” was one of the many potent Occupy slogans.
Was just reading in Art Taylor’s book of musician to musician jazz interviews “Notes and Tones” an explanation by Nina Simone of the artist’s obligation to channel the ferment of the people into songs that reflect the moment.

Which created an interesting scenario for them. In which each kid was wondering whether this was Chinese or Indian music.
Reminded me both of how folk music of the Global South sounds so different than Western music; and that there is some clear mixing of styles from Africa through to the Middle East and then east through Afghanistan and beyond toward India.
