Last night, I was enjoying some electronic music from the 30s and reading about Raymond Scott's "Circle Machine". Today's show features Electronic music made before 1970!

I wonder if there are any parents who actually tried it?

WFMU's own Irwin was largely responsible for the Ramond Scott revival. He produced the first Scott comp of his early cartoon-y stuff in the early '90s. I bought the tape before I'd ever actually listened to FMU in those pre-internet radio daze.

Oh, i've def thought about it. Years ago, a local (very prominent) public radio station had some movie nights dedicated to that very concept...but turns out they were just angling for film-industry jobs as music consultants. So ferget that mess. But it did get me to pondering all the cool things one could do with that concept.

sounds like some Sci Fi soundtrack stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm

There are silent films where the original soundtrack is lost. I could have a lot of fun with that.

It's very nearly a found film now... one scene is still lost... a lot of fun to watch
Avatar 2:28pm
Mr Fab:

There are bands that regularly perform live accompaniment to silent films. Some have released albums of their orig scores.
Avatar 2:30pm
Mr Fab:

I saw Philip Glass live perform his orig score to Cocteau's "Beauty & The Beast." It was an "almost silent" film, as it didn't have much dialogue.

Avatar 2:34pm

"2001" would be a good choice to re-score - like "Beauty & The Beast," it doesn't feature much dialogue. Go for it!

Wow Miss Mei! Again you really bring us the goods. Rare goods.

I have one of the Raymond Scott comps that Irwin compiled. I think it is the one you played from. Will have to dig around for it.

Many thanks for your gloriously unique program each week!
