i saw djs wearing it on the wire (uk magazine) in 99. saw in stores when i moved here in the 2000s. by 2003, gentrification was a lost cause. but, i still volunteered my GIS skills to predict where gentrifacation was happening in Bushwick and to offer tenants of shitty landlords law advice if they were being evicted w/o cause, or rent increases. (my rent doubled between 2014-2016 alone.)

One of my FAVORITE Moments with interactive arts media: after brining a dvd 📀 of David Lynch’s “Inland Empire” (2006? - the one with all the rabbits🐇) home; right off the bat, start of dvd - Lynch gives directives in great detail for calibrating ones flatscreen TV.
Color, Contrast, Hues, Intensity, Brightness, etc etc
It was absolutely informative & helpful. Yet also entirely perverse and Svengali like.
Lastly, on the extras menu of DVD, the most delightful 20 minute obsessive instructional video of Lynch himself creating the perfect pot of Quinoa (w/onion & broccoli optional). Really outshone the movie itself.

Sorta off-topic, but I can remember dozing off to The Manchurian Candidate (1962), waking up to the DVD menu screen, and then realizing that the music on loop in its background sounds eerily similar to Depeche Mode's melody in their song Everything Counts. It's gotta be related because there's even a lyric that references the movie setting (Korean War):

"The handshake seals the contract
From the contract there's no turning back
The turning point of a career
In Korea being insincere
The holiday was fun-packed
The contract, still intact"
