A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

I think he encounters a wide range of people and places that were active during "the old west" period, so I would say that it is "post Civil War" and pre-1920. But the specific dates seem to get fudged to make a better set of stories.

A band that I've had on my show many times - Guyve - are big Melvins fans. They made friends with the soundman at Grumpy's Bar in Minneapolis, who apparently records all his shows. So Cam from Guyve gifted me a thumbdrive with MANY live Melvins shows, recorded at Grumpy's, doing a wide range of their own songs (and many, many covers). It's a good resource to pull from, occasionally.

As I recall, this is a Husband and Wife metal "trio" (with a friend on drums). I think all their songs are instrumentals, at least on the albums I have. I saw them once, and they are very good live. ↳ Song: "Cat Walk" by "John Coltrane"
I don't know a lot about Jazz, and I try to learn as much as I can, but this Coltrane album certainly treats me right, when I wanna listen to something cool.

If only congregants from the Church of Coltrane would show up at my door, instead of those dang Jehovas, I might be more inclined to let them in.
