"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

From an interview with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis:
When you were in the Time, you worked with Prince a lot. What kinds of things did you learn from him that influenced your production and songwriting?
Jimmy: The first thing that I learned from Prince was that I wasn't shit, to be perfectly honest. Growing up, I thought I was pretty talented. Then I got into a piano class with him. I remember Prince was just wearing the keyboard out. I thought, "Man, he is really good." There was another thing, a school band, where he played guitar. He's wearing out every song on the guitar. So I was blown away by him. That was the earliest influence he had on me. Then when we actually worked with him in the Time, it was about work ethic. We'd rehearse six hours a day, then hang out and have fun. He'd come to our rehearsals for five or six hours, then go to his own rehearsals for his own band, then he'd cut all night in the studio, and the next day, he'd show up at our rehearsal with some new song that he just wrote. And it would be "1999" or something, and we'd be like, “Wow, that’s dope.”

Mmmm, seeing people enjoying too much fun on opium molecules whether Imagineered or natural , long term ... Their consciousness goes not up or down but sideways. It generates a non reality connected creativity that can go sideways in reality as well.

In my mind you can’t separate the drugs from the laws surrounding them. It’s how they hit the street. The adulteration, the lack of information.

The promotion or degradation of the drug is related to the law. The drug Alcohol for example

Catching up on comments board. My 2c on opioids: I know people who have been in recovery for over 20 years and still need that methadone 3x a week. Good point RE level of extraction/refinement/adulterants being a HUGE factor also. We're not talking about good old smoking opium tar (even though that his highly addictive) but artificial compounds as well as a lack of regulation. I know that in parts of India you can still get real original opium tar at some temples and it's much more one-off "special occasions only" consumption for a lot of people. Frankly, if regulated smokable opium was made available like weed is now in NY, you would probably see a lot more weekends-only smokers. OTOH you know some assholes would try to convert it into an injectable form, etc. On top of that, there's the whole issue of artificial from the ground up opiods like fentanyl, and even cara fentanyl which has varieties so strong that a few flakes that look like dandruf are a lethal dose.

And once the cheap artificial stuff gets into the chain, there's no telling what it's cut with, etc. And yes, I realize that it's a total fucking disaster situation in a lot of the PNW as well as right here in NYC. I think part of the problem is that decriminalization of hard drugs can't work in a country that has a for-profit medical system. There is NO incentive to keep "the poors/etc" alive or even well and productive. Real treatment programs are absolutely non-existant, and "safe injection sites" backfire spectacularly. In the punitive eyes of the State, it's easier to let an underclass just kill themselves or jail them if they live because in their mind it's CHEAPER (especially if dead=no expenses and there's a system of for-profit prisons so win-win for The Man).

As opposed to my touchstone on healthcare, Australia, only because I get a constant running narrative from my brother. As everyone buys into the same national healthcare, the State has a real interest in keeping people healthy. So, it's mandatory sunscreen and sun hats on kids, ample well-maintained areas for outdoor recreation for kids and adults, and at-home well-child visits. No legal weed so can't comment on market situation there. The ONLY downside is that for (prescription) drugs, the doctor's first instinct will be to prescribe the cheapest form even if it isn't the most convenient. As in my brother has a condition where he needs a colonoscopy every 3 months. The only available prep that he even thought of was the huge, gross containers of stuff where you have to chug 4 or 5 liters of absolutely vile-tasting stuff. I told him my prep for my baseline wasn't bad and he was astonished because he knows I'm a whiner that way. He didn't know that Clenpiq existed -- which is 2 small (6oz) bottles of flavorless stuff that comes with clear instructions and a fancy little cup to track your water intake. The issue: MOST insurance in the US won't carry it because it's billed out at something like $300. My bro is going to ask his doc if he can buy it out of pocket, just to make his life a tiny bit easier. I'm also getting bombarded with ads for "bespoke supplemental medical programs" where you can buy your own "peace of mind" full torso MRI for $6K. This is while I had to fight with my PCP for a scan for some abdominal issues, and there's still wait times of MONTHS for some appointments in NYC (even thought idiots like to make up crap about huge wait times in civilized countries it's just not the case).

Yeah, but let's say he changed FORM -- one format pill vs another. Even that can throw one off; I know something RE generic drugs versus DAWs (dispense as written) and absorption rates for otherwise identical formulations vary wildly once you get into generics. That's also another huge issue in a for-profit medical system; many MANY people aren't even given the option of DAW even if their physician thinks the original is better than the generics. As someone who has been on neurological meds for a good bit now, my doc and I had to argue with Cigna every damn month for a few years for DAW until they just stopped arguing.

I was just in England and there was a big story about how just keeping critical patients waiting in ER’s without seeing someone in a timely fashion cost something like several thousand lives in the past year (I don’t remember the exact number but it was not insignificant). A woman that my Mom taught with back in the day lost her 30-something year old daughter to...Tylenol. Poor girl had migraines her whole life and doc told her to take Tylenol. She did NOT drink as she KNEW about the toxicity. And, one day, while getting her wedding dress fitted, she felt ill. Rushed to hospital; her liver just quit on her and she was dead in a few hours. Tragic. This was about 15 years ago and I remember it well because my Mom was the one who drove her co-worker to the ER as she was too upset to drive herself -- they just herded the kids from their classrooms into the library for the rest of the class period.
