The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

The second time I saw Big Black (part of which appears on Pigpile, by the way) they did the setting off of a coil of firecrackers stunt...a pretty ill-advised idea since, unlike the first show there a year earlier, there was a full crowd in the unventilated, let's call it intimate, basement venue that was No Bar & Grill in Muncie, proprietor Jon Rans kept his gong that he used when his band Mystic Groovies played on stage all the time, I remember Santiago wisely positioning himself behind it. I remember Rans' young son Ian bolting for the door, I waited the detonation out and took the opening at the front of the stage the second the opportunity presented itself (the assembled first line of people cursed with an interest in their own saftety having hung back as best they could). There were no injuries, but everyone would observe a certain blackening of their snot later. mastodon.social...

I saw somewhere that tomorrow, if we still have our eclipse glasses, we should check out the sun for these solar flares.
I'm gonna walk up to the lake in a bit (I live very close to the shores of Lake Erie here) and see if I can see any northern lights action.
There is a lot of city light pollution, though... even up by the lake where I am.

i don't believe eclipse glasses are designed to stare directly at the sun. there are filters you can use for telescopes, however.

/although, if you're able to block out the main body of the sun reliably, eclipse glasses will work.

SAME! The biggest reason I took classes at Cleveland State when I did was so I could get a radio show on WCSB lol. I am way older than most students, of course, but whatever. Better late than never.
I didn't even know something like college radio existed when I was growing up.
I moved to Cleveland post-grad school graduation for a job and discovered this amazing wealth on the low end of the dial here (we've got 5 college stations in the region!! whoa). Never looked back.
I wanted to do a radio show so that I could help folks get exposure to the weird stuff, things I never had exposure to in younger days. Life changing sound exploration. Experimental/weirdo sound changed my life, ya know?

Thanks! We started it in 1998 when there was no such thing as low-power FM licenses. Our stance was that the airwaves belong to the people, we were engaging in civil disobedience, and we'd broadcast til they shut us down.
It was one of the best things I've ever done. I'd wanted to have a radio show since I was 10 years old. I had to help start a pirate station 14 years later to achieve that goal, but I did it.
