There's a bright golden haze on the judges,
The jury's deciding if they should convict,
Cuz Rodgers and Hammerstein heard this and nicked.

Must bike away now and miss the show, regrettably.

i think Mulatu Astatke was the first ethiopian music i ever heard, having picked up ethiopiques vol. 4 (?) on a whim, at a time that i could afford to explore random roads via vinyl purchases.
had no idea how wonderful opening up a can of worms could be!

For me as well Mulatu Astatke was how I was introduced to Ethiopian Music. I heard "Yèkèrmo Sèw" in the Jim Jarmusch movie Broken Flowers.

There was also this song I came across called "Engedaye Nesh" by Kuku Sebsebe and Alemayehu Eshete while learning about Mulatu Astatke's music. I have no idea what it means but it is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard.

↳ Song: "Roud 300: (Here's) Adieu to all Judges and Juries"
I was listening to the roud 300 on headphones while shopping. Now looking at the titles, puzzled that 7 years isn't mentioned, because they all seemed focused on that 7 years.

i'm somewhat illiterate in the world of movies but that song title looks familiar.
(now i'm not sure it was an ethiopiques comp. one of those came later i think)
but i'd say "Great song" ...which would be pointless because every song on the album is beautiful!

Oh my. This takes me back to when I was 18 traveling on a flight in Asia and on the in-flight radio they were played a song by Dub Colossus from this same album. At the time I tried to find Dub Colossus' music on the internet but could not find much. I haven't thought about Dub Colossus...until now.

never thought about it before but i once was camping in the woods upstate(ish) ny. we heard music in the middle of the night and followed it to a waning party about a 1/2 mile away. the music was sort of a cross between a Mulatu jam and like an acid mothers temple!
