Saw part of "The Best Years of Our Lives" again from 1946 the other day and several particularly affecting scenes. Pretty direct look, for its day, at difficulties of vets reentering families, work, life. Real life veteran Harold Russell plays a role -- lost hands replaced with hooks -- and having to listen to some lunch counter dipshit claiming the whole war effort was all a sham that took in all the fools. Non-professional actor Russell won Supporting Actor Oscar.
