	12:22pm redkayak: In our neighborhood there were a lot of men who came home profoundly injured from WWII - so as kids we were exposed vicariously. The arguments between my dad and my brother during the Viet Nam era were quite a thing!

	12:26pm Irene Trudel: ↳ redkayak @12:11 Absolutely, redkayak! My mother was a Radioman, whose division discovered a Nazi submarine from their post in Chatham, ME. My dad didn't see combat but helped build and reconstruct bridges during his time in service.
	12:26pm still b/p: Saw part of "The Best Years of Our Lives" again from 1946 the other day and several particularly affecting scenes. Pretty direct look, for its day, at difficulties of vets reentering families, work, life. Real life veteran Harold Russell plays a role -- lost hands replaced with hooks -- and having to listen to some lunch counter dipshit claiming the whole war effort was all a sham that took in all the fools. Non-professional actor Russell won Supporting Actor Oscar.

Pretty direct look, for its day, at difficulties of vets reentering families, work, life. Real life veteran Harold Russell plays a role -- lost hands replaced with hooks -- and having to listen to some lunch counter dipshit claiming the whole war effort was all a sham that took in all the fools. Non-professional actor Russell won Supporting Actor Oscar.
