From the liner notes: Scored for two lap steel electric guitars, double bass and glockenspiel, the two acoustic instruments played with bows, the piece zooms in on the range of a major second (two semitones). The two guitars sweep in opposite directions within the range, crossing every four minutes; the double bass and glockenspiel sustain long tones, producing beats of different speeds determined by their distance from the guitar tones.

My introduction to Chartreuse was in 1984 in Ambronay, a medieval town south of Lyon. I was there to hear a performance by Les Arts Florissants. Their director, William Christie, bought me one in the hotel bar.

This bed music reminds me, there was a little mini festival in our local park yesterday, with a live covers band. They were actually rather good, doing a selection of crowd pleasing numbers such as A Land Down Under, Uptown Funk and so on. They finished the set with Tina Turner's Simply the Best and, after some rapturous applause and the call back for an encore, they obliged. And then did War Pigs!!!! Ha ha ha.

No, not Hejduk. I liked the idea of a free education! But there was no chance I'd get accepted. I did get into one architecture school, but got wise and declined to matriculate. I would have made a terrible architect, because I have no spatial aesthetic. I realized I wanted to be an architecture historian.
