Discotech Underground is actually two...two...two shows in one!

The first half is a "Happy Hour" of sorts (because it's five o'clock somewhere, right?), spinning the kinds of sounds you might have heard at a real, authentic 1960's DISCOTECH as cool cats and swingin' chicks danced the night away in their mod threads and mini skirts to hard-driving sounds under the flashing lights! The only thing missing are the cage dancers...but we're working on it!

The second half is for when you head home after a wild night, and ease in with the heady, trippy, mind-expanding sounds of a groovy free-form UNDERGROUND rock radio station that digs deep into their library and blows your mind all over again!

We had a Garrard record changer with pretty much nothing but S&G albums on it. Side one of Bridge, Side two of Sounds, Side two of Parsley, and when done, just flot the whole stack over and repeat. That basically went on for the entire decade of the 70s in my house.

↳ Song: "The Pusher" by "Steppenwolf"
I mentioned earlier that my cousin started a band in 1968. They played a lot of Steppenwolf. With "community standards" in mind, they changed the lyrics of this one to "Condemn the Pusher".

We had a Magnavox console stereo..one of those big "furniture" size ones that had a turntable in one side and a radio in the other. It had to be at least four or five feet long!

Is it true that the song's writer, Hoyt Axton, recorded his own version *after* Steppenwolf's?

My dad was an electronics engineer in the navy and worked for SESAC for a while, so he considered himself a audiophile bon vivant. He built his own Scott Amplifier from a kit and was very cork-sniffy about his hi fi set.

I have a pile of old stereo enthusiast magazines from the 50's and 60's, and yes, the elitism and snobbery surrounding that culture was significant. Lots of classical nuts knocking heads with the jazzbos.

What is hilarious is when the show Easy Rider on a public TV station how they edit the sound track to just say "Damn"...it's an awkward jump every time it happens and sounds really ridiculous.

Archie Bunker used to say god damn all the time on cbs in the 70s. Now no broadcast allows that except fx, which allows everything at all times

Well, public access TV has to be mindful of not offending anyone or running afoul of the FCC. The worst example was when Smokey And The Bandit started airing on public TV and the had the voice of Fred Flintstone dub in "scum bum" in place of "sum bitch" for Jackie Gleason's character. It's so bad....

I saw the pbs special last night about Clive Davis and how he got scapegoated by columbia. Then he went on to have greater success with arista. Then when arista fucked him he had greater success with bmg, and arista floundered, and eventually he got it back anyway

The “god damn” bit from All In The Family's 1968 and 1969 ABC pilots was removed from the CBS pilot that aired in 1971.
The bit was eventually used in 1973 for the fourth season premiere, but syndicated reruns later censored it.

I seem to remember it that way. Archie found out Mike and Gloria's friend was a draft dodger who went to Canada, hit the roof about it and during the argument said something to the effect "I don't want to hear no more about that goddamned war!" It was a very dramatic moment for a sit com.
  6:21pm

This is the plot line of the show; Archie explodes with anger when he discovers that Mike has invited his draft dodger friend to the family's Christmas dinner, where the guest of honor is Archie's close friend, a gold star father whose son was killed in Vietnam. The twist was the father sided with the draft dodger, which Archie wasn't expecting.
