On more than one occasion, I saw Isaac Hayes taking his girlfriend to work at the nail salon up the street. He had a blue and white caddy with plates that said M. Hayes. Now the house is ours, and today is our anniversary.

People used to stand outside on the sidewalk and shout back and forth with prisoners about items they needed, etc. The windows must have been openable then. When radical Angela Davis was jailed there, there were many protests outside.

Also the Crown Fountain which is one of my favorite pieces of public art (the faces which are projected 50 feet high are ordinary citizens, not Great Men or city founders). And the Tiffany glass dome in the roof of the Chicago Cultural Center (former public library) is just beautiful.

But record store Reckless Records (originally founded in London) has a small outpost downtown at 26 E. Madison. Walking out to the Museum Pier at sundown is beautiful, you can look back at the skyline and watch the buildings light up. Shedd Aquarium is pretty neat if you're into that kind of thing.

	10:17am jan: @Trouble, Did you see the PBS doc about Disco? It was a bit of an appeal to the boomers, but then again that's me and I watched it. Disco was hot when I got to NYC, but none of my artist friends wanted to go to a Disco. The first PBS episode covered TSOP, artists and DJs. watching that program with all the 1970s videos accompanied by people who survived...people who were the same age of the today's youth...it was good to hear the music anyway.

Laswell was... uh... sitting there but not at all present. And dude was in considerable pain; you could read it on his face. He was supposed to perform in Painkiller at Big Ears in Knoxville in April 2023, but he backed away. Laswell/Lombardo/Zorn. At first, Christian McBride agreed to sit in, bt I think he had no idea what he was agreeing to. He backed away and Trevor Dunn sat in instead.

Obviously -- I say, yes, of course -- that's not the history they're telling, but totally ignoring the parallel-ish timing of births and evolution until the briefest mention late in the game seems a glaring quirk, especially when DJ describes his early manipulations such as repeating best breaks/sections in songs multiple times -- guess who was doing the same thing in basement parties in the same city...?

But record store Reckless Records (originally founded in London) has a small outpost downtown at 26 E. Madison. Walking out to the Museum Pier at sundown is beautiful, you can look back at the skyline and watch the buildings light up. Shedd Aquarium is pretty neat if you're into that kind of thing.

The first PBS episode covered TSOP, artists and DJs. watching that program with all the 1970s videos accompanied by people who survived...people who were the same age of the today's youth...it was good to hear the music anyway.

He was supposed to perform in Painkiller at Big Ears in Knoxville in April 2023, but he backed away. Laswell/Lombardo/Zorn. At first, Christian McBride agreed to sit in, bt I think he had no idea what he was agreeing to. He backed away and Trevor Dunn sat in instead.
