True that, BOB, about the AM/FM dichotomy. FM-"free orm" broadcasting was in its infancy while I was in college('64-'69). It was so cool to switch from Top 40 WIBG in Philly to the new FM outlet to hear the full-length versions of songs like "Light My Fire, "Suzie Q" or "Inna Gadda Da Vida." IN STEREO, no less! What a time for pop music fans!

Several members of the Glee Club at my college alma mater performed a capella versions of pop tunes with intricate vocal parts, a la the Association. Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, Beatles et al. Nice stuff!

The composer of the Turtles' "Grim Reaper of Love," bassist Chuck Portz, is a personal friend of mine. He left the group early, totally disillusioned by the rigors of touring and the insanity of the record business. I love the song and its unusual time signature, but it was a bad choice for a follow-up single to a monster hit like "Happy Together."
