really we're lucky we don't hear dogs complain about pain -so they usually administer anesthetics on the side of too little - rather than too much.
so we rarely hear of dogs or cats dying from anesthesiologist error, (i never have heard of that, actually) -as is horribly common with humans

  10:45pm
Dean:

Just what I needed to hear, coelacanth∅, though I have been aware of the risks. I will be under general anesthesia tomorrow morning for a "routine" procedure. Better get my things in order tonight. If I don't catch up with you all again, it's been wonderful sharing the boards with you!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm

i don't know if it makes any difference, but i would tell them up front, something like "i'm a lightweight, i don't need much anesthetic so please take it easy"...
maybe?
...i know, whenever i see a new dentist (which is almost every time i see a dentist)
i say as soon as i walk in "i'll just tell you now i wont have a root canal, no matter what you say".
and lo, i have never "needed" a root canal! - despite being somewhat neglectful of the recommended oral hygiene.

...just an idea.

coelacanth...you say you've been listening to yellow swans lately?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
coelacanth∅:

↳ Ike @10:55
right - typically it'll be people who are in a terrible way already, healthwise, who's bodies can't handle the stress of the anesthetic, nor the procedure itself.
  10:58pm
Dean:

At the risk of TMI, I have had this procedure before and my experience with anesthetic has been fine. Quick to go under, quick to revive.

Now, dentists: I have fairly frequent cleanings, which I find, if not exactly pleasant, but weirdly enjoyable. The sound of ultrasound (if that makes sense) resonating up the mandible is fantastic.

i don't much mind dental exams/ procedures. i just feel like there are better ways to spend my time...+ i object to feeding the gluttonous u.s. medical monster.
the main thing i don't like with dental procedures is the liquid going down my throat.

that part kinda sucks!

the 1st of the 2 wisdom teeth i've had pulled i had done at the dental school in newark nj.
it was less money, and i figured they'd probably do as good a job as an established practitioner, if not better. they're trying to pass, trying to impress; AND they're being closely monitored.
- so, all went well. 3 people pulling on a pair of pliers, sweating and grunting!
no bits left in the gum.

- and now i can fit the floss between my teeth, which i do about twice/year

still b/p:

Had the mouth's "biggest molar" pulled a month ago, and it were a FIGHT. Dentist associate and then main dentist had to WORK the old crown off with strenuous pulling, angling prying effort. I was zonked, energy wise, for the rest of the day, and I'm guessing it took a good bit of juice outa them, too, and likely put them behind in their day's schedule. Alternative would've been the ol' root canal, new crown and a bill that would've been too much of a big Jabba The Hit.

my sails lost the wind when my backpack was stolen ~5-6 years ago...my *good* digital camera that took me a couple years to save up for; and, more significantly, a pad with the finished, very detailed watercolor pencil drawings of a children's book, and 1/2-2/3 of those for other books in the series of 7; + the text for one and extensive notes for 6 others in the series.
