Tweedy was pretty focused and Wilco delivered hard both Friday & Saturday. (I heard in the past he's been wobbly; you know, gettin' Squintsy.) The Saturday night pentultimate act, Dry Cleaning (from the UK) was pretty good and we enjoyed a guy about 10 rows about bouncing his llama puppet. NL&LS were absolutement le merde chaud before that, as were The Young Fresh Fellows.

Jason Isbell kicked ass Friday night. First time for me. (He was out of the DBTs by the time I started seeing them.) Band from Chicago called Horsegirl was a nice start to the Friday.

All in all, a splendid time had by myself and some college buds. I regret missing Iris Dement on Sunday, but had to get back to Plymouth so the ladies could chase me.

Michael, there are two companies in Rochester, NY, that make white hot dogs -- Zweigle is the preeminent one.
You didn't care for them. For many other people, Zweigle's white hots are delicious and unique, so much that people drive from distant points -- i.e. Montclair -- to devour them (Don's Original in Rochester is a longstanding hot-dog chain in Rochester offering white hots).
Rochester-based Wegman's supermarkets, including one in northern NJ, carry Zeigle hots. Years ago, the Woodbridge Wegman's didn't carry white hots.
Instead of the pinkish food coloring of regular hot dogs that are made of beef and/or pork or some vegetative stuff, Zweigle uses beef, pork and veal, and uses powdered milk to provide the white-ish tincture.

Caught a movie free on YouTube last night called "The Day Of The Wolves", 1971 low budget heist flick with music by Sean Bonniwell from The Music Machine. I enjoyed it, and loved Bonniwell's guitar-heavy score. It felt like an influence on Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, especially how all the robbers were given numbers instead of names to protect the heist. And it also felt like it was influenced by The Thomas Crown Affair and how McQueen assembled all the crooks with specialties to do the job. I think it's worth a watch, especially on YouTube in decent quality.

The story structure the dialog, the casting and performances, the visual content of literally every shot, and the cumulative effect all that immaculate work has on how the story is told.

P-90:

Steinbeck wrote the original story. One of the reasons the movie is so good is that a considerable number of other writers wrote and rewrote all the parts of the script repeatedly in an effort to create the movie version that would best dramatize and flesh out Steinbeck’s story. The shooting script was the umpteenth draft that incorporated the best of the all the writers’ contributions.

Another YouTube find was "Violent Saturday" with Lee Marvin. Good movie, doesn't feel like a noir because it's filmed in color Cinemascope. Has a great role by Lee Marvin, and a miscast Ernest Borgnine playing an Amish farmer. If Victor Mature's main character weren't wealthy and successful it would have felt more like a noir story I think, but it was still a good watch, mostly for Marvin and the scenery.

It is pretty amazing to see the range of characters Borgnine played in the early to mid 50's. His playing the Amish farmer was the same year he was in Marty! and in the same time he did Johnny Guitar and all the Westerns. A great Borgnine role is "The Mob" from '51. Great actor all around. It's just odd seeing him in the Amish role.
