In the early and even high Middle Ages, figuring out the date of Easter every year was the hardestcore math that educated people did. They called that calculation โ€œcomputus,โ€ computation. I recall seeing that in some Latin treatise by the โ€˜Venerable Bede,โ€™ early 700s.

yeah he did. and in general wasn't bad in the technical side of things. (? - unless it was the common scenario of "producer" taking credit for the engineers' work)
but one thing that pisses me off he did - which was common but not universal and not necessary, was not allowing very good musicians to play on their own bands' recordings (ie herman's hermits, etc)

"Mr. Chusid found his inspiration for 'Dazed and Confused' while working as a marble cutter in Elizabeth, NJ, in the late 1960s. The story goes that a fellow mason surreptitiously put on a Van Morrison LP, in an attempt to get Mr. Chusid to finally hear Astral Weeks. Immediately realizing the setup, Mr. Chusid threw his nine pound hammer at the turntable, smashing both the record and the turntable; however, the hammer was thrown with such force that Mr. Chusid was also struck in the head by the hammer. He emerged from the emergency room several hours later with a sheaf of handwritten lyrics, and no memory of the accident. By chance, Robert Plant was 'visiting' the same emergency room, and 'Dazed and Confused' was recorded in a New York studio later that very same day."

this reminds me that i thought this song was an instrumental for several years, because i'd asked for through the past, darkly for xmas (despite my mother's objection) and did not know that my ancient phono cartridge was delivering only one of the stereo channels to both speakers. 2000 light years from home and she's a rainbow have the lead vox hard panned to 1 side.
so except for some bg vox, they were instrumentals.

More to the point maybe ? You like 'Smiley Smile' better than 'PetSounds' anyway, Mr. DJ ?

That's what Judee said in the live intro, playing this on the BBC. This was her first composition that was recorded by another band, before she recorded it for her debut album.
