Going back to the early~mid1960s ...I'd characterize the Manfreds as having some backgrounds in Jazz - & going into the Vocal ~ Gittar Pop which literally conquered the World in the British Invasion. A lot like TheZombies. TradJazz was a trend in England before the Beatles & the Blues / R&B revival centered in London with the Stones & yARdbiRdS et al. JackBruce passed thru Manfred Mann...

A thick morass of Baroque prog is RDM's Contamination, which delivers Bach in mid-'70s Italian prog mode.

Dragon were like an Aussie rock institution. This is blowing my mind. I had no idea. "April Sun in Cuba" might be their biggest pop hit.

The thing is, to me, they're a unique caliber of acapella group who's sound lies somewhere between The Nylons & Oingo Boingo.

but there are many notable bands, I've discovered from this show, that did the "prog to rock pop" pipeline. PROG DOESNT PAY

Strawbs, which featured Rick Wakeman early on, never mind Sandy Denny, were widely promoted, but somehow didn't attract the attention of similarly promoted bands (Supertramp, Genesis, etc.). Good to see that they are enduring and finding new fans.

↳ Song: "Songs from the Wood" by "Jethro Tull"
The last time my mother ever came to dinner at my house was Christmas 2019. After dinner I plonked the records she gave my sister and I for Xmas 1969 - 50 years before. Four Sail by Love, Led Zeppelin 2, Elephant Mountain by The Youngbloods AND Stand Up by Jethro Tull. She examined each album like they were pieces of space junk that landed on the kitchen table. When she opened the gatefold of Stand up, and the dye cut band members popped up like a birthday card, she said "WHAT'S THIS!?" and proceeded to rip the album cover to pieces.

I have it on video.

Speaking of Aqualung, "Locomotive Breath" hit the inner ear of my memory banks yesterday while mowing the lawn...
