Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from July 19, 2024 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Yes. He's a very sensitive person. And the music business, at least then, was getting into bed with vampires. Fame is funny thing. Plus, I know what it's like to have an emotionally dead tyrannical dad:

Yeah, I guess so. Thanks. Just cuz some groups are louder than others doesn't mean they have more support (I tell myself) and I will try to be more active politically, cuz, this is a contest (note, I did not say fight or battle)

As you all may know, in the shower ticks just drop off; so maybe searches should be in the shower. Gotta go now! @) Thanks, UM! Have a great weekend, everyone!

i did not know that. i always heard the best way is to either touch a hot match end to it's ass, or drench it with alcohol; and wait patiently for it to back out.
as if...
generally when it's pretty-well burrowed-in to my flesh, i panic and grab my knife, or a single-edge razor blade, and dig a trench where the tick is

I've never known a tick to drop off in the shower. There's a cheap metal doohickey called a tickkey that works pretty well. Outdoor stores often have them at the checkout.

i'll look for that. although i've gotten good about finding them before they've started their meal...except deer ticks, which can barely be felt and i've had a few pretty far in.

If you shower within about the first 2 hours of exposure, you reduce your chances of catching Lyme disease by 90% (per the cdc), and my experience was they dropped off my head with no problem after this one exposure... that's all I know @)

They dig in deeply-I've found grabbing them (with forceps), and keeping a gentle pulling/traction on them causes them to eventually let go, so you can remove the whole tic.

A couple years ago, I found a deer tick on my chest. After removing it (tickkey!), I dropped it into a jar of rubbing alcohol to show my doctor and claim my antibiotic prize. I left the jarred tick on my desk, where I'd look at it sometimes. That winter was cold. I put a space heater under my desk to keep warm. One day I heard a bubbling sound, and saw the tick dancing around in the jar! The radiator had heated the alcohol to a boil and brought it back to "life."

I think showering as soon as you come in after exposure, before they have as much of a chance to burrow deeply can prevent a lot of them from burrowing in? (Gotta soap up a lot)
