NJ Transit has buses that make two or three trips into NYC in the morning and about the same on the way back to NJ in the evening. That's it. Oh, and that's Monday through Friday. Otherwise, you can take a PATH to Newark Penn Station and take a 28 bus to Montclair from there. Service is iffy and Newark Penn is like NYC of the 70s, however, it is more reliable than NJ Transit trains from Hoboken or NY Penn to Montclair environs which travel every two hours on the weekends. AND the service is sketchy with the heat wave.

NJ Transit has buses that make two or three trips into NYC in the morning and about the same on the way back to NJ in the evening. That's it. Oh, and that's Monday through Friday. Otherwise, you can take a PATH to Newark Penn Station and take a 28 bus to Montclair from there. Service is iffy and Newark Penn is like NYC of the 70s, however, it is more reliable than NJ Transit trains from Hoboken or NY Penn to Montclair environs which travel every two hours on the weekends. AND the service is sketchy with the heat wave.
